TORONTO – Two coyotes attacked a promising young musician as she was hiking alone in a national park in eastern Canada, and authorities said she died Wednesday of her injuries.
The victim was identified as Taylor Mitchell, 19, a singer-songwriter from Toronto who was touring her new album on the East Coast.
She was hiking solo on a trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia on Tuesday when the attack occurred. She was airlifted to a Halifax hospital in critical condition and died Wednesday morning, authorities said.

WOW WOW
I just never thought of them attacking and killing a person. Just doesn't seem to happen much actually and this poor girl died.
Goes to show--carry "something" with you for defense when hiking.
It doesn't have to be a coyote, packs of just wild dogs in areas are dangerous.
when hiking alone, be sure to be prepared....pepper spray or something.
When I biked alot before SO MANY people's mutts were loose and tried to always bite my ankle when pedaling....well I got high power pepper spray and tied it to my handlebars. AND YES it sure worked. Mutt got close---spray in the face. That stopped them in their tracks.
So just beware everyone...safe than sorry right?

Yeah, wow. I didn't know coyotes could take down an adult. Sad.

Yep, which is why we have strict boundaries for our kids. We've seen coyotes in packs of 12 right in our front yard.
Coyotes will send out "scouts" to hunt up the food, then they yowl and yip to let the rest of their pack know they found food and where.
We had two come right up in our backyard to our dog in broad daylight (we no longer have that dog!). Talk about freaky! (We rehomed the dog for being a worthless guard animal. Lazy she was!)
Thankfully, it's open season on coyotes!

I'm not at all suprised. There were wolves by my trainers house in Saskatchewan that chased me and her kids home ON HORSEBACK

I was chased by coyotes in April 08...or was it 07....I know it was April because I got up to take a break from working on my taxes and went for a walk. I never knew I could run so fast. Fortunately, I was close enough to a house that I got there quickly, and the coyotes dropped the chase when I reached the nearest corner of the house. Talk about scared. I closed and locked the yard gate and just lay on the grass, my legs wouldn't work anymore for a few minutes!
That is a scary news story....

This is so sad.
People should never hike alone.
Stay in groups and have at least one or two firearms in the group.
People venture out into the wildnerness and assume nothing will happen to them. Then when you are confronted by a bear or pack of coyotes or a cougar and then you sure wish you had a friend and you both knew how to use your firearms.
My husband and I look forward to being 21, so we can purchase handguns. Until then, our shotgun or R700 will have to do.

Both, wolves especially, mainly kill on the run. Its easier for them that way. Standing one's ground by a nice climbable tree would be ideal.
Lets see if I can remember that if it ever happens to ME! LOL.

Thats a terrible thing to happen. For years around here there have been warnings for hunters because coyotes have become so agressive. Several grown men have been attacked. I can't remember if anyone was actually killed though.
