Hello everyone!

I'm Kittie.

Planning to build my own backyard garden soon to help me spend my free time. What vegetables can you recommend to me?

I prefer plants that are not high-maintenance since I'm just starting out.

By the way, this is my dream garden. Hopefully, I can have my own beautiful garden soon.

Welcome to SS. In order to really answer that question, we need to know a bit more about you. A lot depends on where you're located and what you like.

I recommend peas and leeks as easy to grow plants. Location does matter for many plants. Where I am apparently you can throw squash seed in the general direction of the ground and get huge plants. Tomatoes don't always do well here. Some years the late blight gets them early.

Radishes, zucchini, beets are some other easy ones - often recommended to kids because they germinate easily, and show themselves soon (espacially the first two I mentioned). Also, they don't usually present problems if soil fertility is passingly decent and you remember to water them. A little weeding now and then will help, but zucchini will probably out compete most weeds!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I found a site connected to this that focuses on gardening. So excited to join it too and learn some more! I'd also love to stay here and learn more about becoming self-sufficient.

I'm a stay at home mom and I'm from California. I just recently got into gardening since we got out backyard extended.

Wow! I love to try out growing some squashes too. My kid loves eating them.

I think tomatoes are hard to maintain.

Wow, thanks for the tip. Probably, my son can help me plant radishes and zucchini. I can't wait to plant these. :celebrate

Loose leaf lettuce varieties (black seeded simpson is one of my easy favorites) are a quick win, too
