TGIF!

Nice weather today and hopefully tomorrow too. Cold again on Sunday. I will, will, will get something done in the garden tomorrow. Not sure what yet - but I'm determined.

Gonna clear a stall for the little doe that's due soon. I'm gonna put her and a buddy in a regular stall - not a kidding pen. Since she's a little bit on the un-tame side I'll need to keep her penned until she kids. The stall she'll be going in is 10 x 10 and my kidding pens are only 4 x 6. I'm sure she'll be more comfortable with more room. Not that she'll be easier to catch check ligaments - but she will at least be able to move.

Not a whole lot else on the agenda besides regular ol' farm stuff. Need to keep moving forward on the chicken re-arranging plans. I want them all outta the smaller pens and pretty much free-ranging by spring. Not planning on hatching any for awhile so I don't care if they run together. Wish I had a plucker - I'd be more likely to butcher when I need to if I had one. I need to look around for a used one somewhee or see if I can bribe my handy son to build me one. Hmmmmm... might have to work on that idea. Might even order some franken-birds...

Tried to take a pic of geese yesterday. Silly photo-bombing dog!

It is pretty funny, huh?

Lost another chicken yesterday/last night. I am so teed off about it....just got these Sussex into a new area too. Lost one in the old area - lost this one in the new area. Unfortunately, I thought they'd be okay penned away from the LGD....guess not. Tonight I've got 'em locked up and have a live trap set in the area....but I had it in the other area too and didn't catch nuttin'...ARGH!

Not sure what's gettin' em either. Comes down to prolly a raccoon, but a great horned owl isn't totally outta the question either. I'm leaning more to coon though. We do have plenty of owls in the area and we hear 'em almost every night. I know I've lost half-grown chicks to em - but these are big ol' - full grown birds. Hens about 7 lbs and roo's close to 10!

Weirdest thing is that the neck of these birds are totally featherless and neck meat eaten with only a little bit of breast meat touched. Not gutted, no other distinguishing marks... Head is still attached with a nekkid neck. Hope I catch summpin' in the trap. I want this to stop or I'm gonna have to relocate these chickens again...

I planted carrots, parsnips, and turnips today. I was determined to get something in the ground!

Sleepy tonight - didn't sleep well last night. Might turn in early... or I might sit up and watch something silly and mindless on the boob tube, lol.
