Anybody here experienced with Pinterest?

I can lose a few hours on Pinterest but find it a great way to keep a note of ideas and things I like that I come across randomly on the net and know I will never be able to find again. The general categories that the system asks you to allocate are pretty restrictive but most people I know will search for what they are interested in by typing in the search box at the top. Mine did the map request thing for a bit but then stopped when I refused to use it. Have fun with it I think it is great. One tip - I always check that something I find and like actually links to the appropriate web page before pinning it to one of my boards.

Not sure of how to get rid of the map recommendation, unfortunately. I haven't used it on a real computer I'm a while. The map option would be good for someone planning a trip or organizing local places it something like that. It may even be possible to link more than one person's pins onto a map so users could search via map, I don't know.
Anyway, addressing some of the other issues, I can see where you are coming from. I think I would pick the category that best fits to the overall group. So your board might do better in gardening because people that garden are most likely to be those that have self sufficient needs. In the greater scheme of things I don't think that matters too much, the pounds will come up when searched for regardless I think.
When you search there should be some way toview either pins, boards, or users. I know how to do this in my tablet but I don't really remember on the computer.
You can certainly lose many hours on pinterest though!

I did a Google search, since the "Search" function on Pinterest itself wasn't actually working when I tried it. "hqueen13" brought up nothing. But if you're using the online name as just "hqueen" I did find two people using the name. (But I didn't find a homesteading board - maybe you use Pinterest for other things?)

Anyhow, I've gotten familiar enough with most aspects of P boards that things are working out okay for me.

Glad its working. I think it's the same, anyway. I have a critters board, and a wedding board (prob should take that down I guess) and a gardening board. I haven't done much with it in a long time.
