Hi there,
I got to this website because backyardchickens was down and I was redirected here.
Looks like a fun forum!

I'm Annie, 62 years young, and I bought a house last year with my son in Portland, Oregon. I have 3 grandchildren. I am on disability for Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. I travel to Spain once a year to do long distance walking as part of my therapy - usually take 6 to 8 other people with me to pay my expenses. I just got 4 hens a few weeks ago and am having fun learning how to care for "city chicks." I grew up on a farm, but life then was simpler. Nobody coddled animals. They lived or they died. That included farm dogs and cats, which my grandmother had 36 of, all living outdoors. Their job was to keep the rodent and pigeon population down.

My grandmother used to say I was born in the wrong century. I enjoy growing my own food, canning, drying, fiber arts such as quilting, sewing, needlefelting, and crocheting.

I guess that's enough for now.
Glad to have found this forum.
Give a shout out if you're from Portland - we can share a cup of coffee!

I am not from the area, but I have memories of a misspent year in your beautiful city. Never did get used to the winter drizzle, but spring was awe inspiring to someone arriving to the city after the March blizzards and cold of south-est, central-est Wisconsin.

I know the City looks nothing like I remember it in the late 1960s. I suspect I wouldn't like the changes -- highways crossing over and under all over -- but the Rose Festival was unforgettable; as were the many front yards planted to gardens up the hill in the better section of town.

Never forgot how to forecast the weather in Portland either: "If you can't see Mt. Hood it is raining. If you can see Mt. Hood it is going to rain." Like my mother, I'd always wanted to return for a visit. Probably good that I didn't.

That explains a lot about Mom. She was a WAVE stationed in the Pacific NorthWest during WWII.
