Nice barn! Is it yours? If so, you need to fill it up w/animals.

That's your barn?? Oh, I definitely have barn envy! It is HUGE!! How tall is it anyway? A multistory apartment barn for the animals!

Yep, that is our barn! :)
One of the neat things about it is that all the blocks for the walls were homemade.

Funny thing is - I don't think I will be allowed to put animals in it. DH is talking about converting it into a "Recreation Building". Basketball hoop in 1/3, home gym area in another area and an area with bar for entertaining in the center 1/3. We have another building that I have been calling the "sheep shed" that I think will be our animal barn. I will have to get a pic of that one, I was told that was the building they used for raising the calves.

How tall of a doorway would a beef steer need?

Fantastic barn! I would live in that! :thumbsup Make the doorway for the steer tall enough for you to walk through, 8' is a good height.

I think DH is thinking we will be living in it. Big dreams for sure. It really isn't that big of a barn, just really tall. DH says it is 36x60.

No way I need 8' to walk through a doorway ... ... I'm only 5'6"
Well, the other building for animals is kinda different. It is not really very tall, as a rough guess I would say maybe 6' at the outside wall on one side, the roof slopes up to about 9' at the peak, and then down to about 4 foot on the other side. The inside is already divided into pens, with a variety of set-ups of mangers, feed bunks, waterers. I'll have to get some pictures.

27. What would your ideal super hero/villain be?
I am hoping for HAYMAN to show up to cut, dry, bale and store my hay for me next year.

28. Are your family or friends also interested in self sufficiency?.
No. My family thinks I'm weird to do these things. Well, except for one sister. She cans because she has to store all the venison they get and she has chickens to control the bugs and she loves the fresh eggs. My mom grew up poor on a small dairy farm, so she enjoys being able to buy what she wants/needs now instead of working hard for it.

29. Do you like to cook? Are you interested in whole foods and natural foods? raw milk? farm fresh eggs?
I love to cook and I have a kitchen full of gadgets to prove it! DH bought me a grain mill a few years back, so I grind my own flour and make fresh bread. I can't wait to get chickens next spring, my family s eagerly awaiting fresh eggs. I keep dropping hint about getting a milk cow sometime in the future, but we are going to start with beef steers first.

30. What was your MOS?
31. Do you forage or hunt for part of your food needs?
I like to hunt. We also have a lot of wild asparagas on our property, so I will be competing with the neighbors for that. My sister and BIL pick morels every spring so I will have to see about that. almost forgot about the wild blueberries and blackberries up at the cabin ...

32. What skills do you have that help you be more self sufficient?
Cooking and gardening

33. In which fictional universe would you most like to live?

The medieval planet of Maltroit.

34. Do you have solar panels? Plans to use solar energy?
I would like to build a couple of passive solar heaters for my coops, I have an idea of how I can make them useful as a dehydrator also. I will have to see if it will work or not.

35 What is the mass/weight ratio of a European swallow carrying a coconut from the tropics to England?
36. Have you ever lived completely off grid? Would you like to?
Our cabin is completely offgrid, so every weekend during the summer until i was 16 we lived offgrid . that was enough for me.

37. In what do you trust? myself

38. Do you make things yourself to save money? saving money would be a happy side-effect.

Here is an interesting purchase we recently made.

Any guesses as to what it is or what it does?
Besides a lawn ornament. FYI - it still works
