Cutting grass & cutting hay are different. You may want to see if anyone in the area has haying equipment who might hire out for that job. Now, people cut grass and made haystacks for many years and bless them for that!!! It can be done.

Mowers cut the grass into pieces too small to properly bale or stack. A sythe is a whole lot of work! But, we all do what we need and make it through. A good weedeater could be carefully used to cut the tall stuff and lay it over to dry. Practice first. It needs to retain as much length as possible. Let me tell you, a couple acres to cut is a huge job.

I love your knowing you need to do these things and looking for the way to accomplish it -- DIY!! I would get a good dairy goat back & teach the kids to milk. Provides for needs...milk, easy to make cheese, etc. & a goat is easy to train to tie out. Move her around and helps cut grass :) . Hope your chickens do well this time! a fence around the coop wont stop coons but a couple strands of hot wire hooked to it sure will slow them down! small solar charger will do the trick for the spark.

Hope hubby does well. You have your hands full but, most is easier than raising those babies -- they can listen, learn & help you now! Keep it a fun learning experience.

Welcome, from VA
