ummm.... well.... I shouldn't a done it - but I DID!!!! I'll try to get pics later today - even though the buck is a hairy mess, lol.

We had our first freeze last night - I didn't even know we were forecast to have a freeze - I was kinda busy yesterday and didn't even give the weather a second thought.

These will have to do for now - they are off their website. They're are not real current pics. The buck looks about the same - just a little older and dirtier, lol. The doe is just as pretty now as she is in the pic - but older. They are both 4 years old now.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

I cooked a small Thanksgiving meal and DH and I took it to my folks house. The day was fairly drama free, but ya know... with family there's always 'something'. My mother is so firm in her delusions about my brother that it's all she can talk about. I kept steering the conversation in a different direction, but it wouldn't last long before she was back on it. And, true to her 'sneaky' ways I heard from my aunt that my mom has a new cell phone - and she's hiding it from me. Sigh.... No reason to, but she is. Oh.... and she's driving again. A couple of weeks ago she told me she had written her doctor a letter and she was waiting for him to write back and give her 'permission' to drive again.... :hu I didn't even question her or react when she told me she's driving. I just can't.

But, we got through it and they were appreciative! It does make me feel good to do little things that make them happy. But...(there's always a "but" isn't there?) It saddens me to see how much my mom has turned my dad against my brother also.

She tells me that she misses him and loves him, but then she tells my dad that my brother is a thief and they want nothing to do with him. It's been her way for years to try and keep the family separated and at odds with each other. It allows her to run her little schemes.... GRRRR.

In other news:

The new goats are good! The doe came in heat and I can only trust that Felix did his job! Hopefully we'll have new Nigi kids in 5 months!

I think I've finally gotten ahead of the parasite issues. Checked eyelids yesterday and almost everyone is looking good. A couple of them will get a re-dose of wormer and the ones that didn't get a full dose of copper a couple weeks ago are going to get more. Hope I can get to that - NO - I WILL get that done before going back to work next week.

Need to play goat shuffle again too. I've got some does that are still nursing 8-9 month old kids. Eek!

I pulled some wethers from their mama yesterday and I need to get Red's triplets off of her. That poor gal, she's looking a little strained from her big ol' 3/4 grown doelings still nursing when they can. And, she's such a softie she lets em. Dusty bred her a week or so ago, so she definitely needs a break. I'm kinda hoping she didn't settle cuz I'd love to breed her to the new buck for my first mini-Nubians. Probably have to wait on that, cuz my other two Nubi girls are bred too. I might, just might, breed some of the doelings to the Nigi buck. He'd be a good choice for their first freshening. He's so little, lol. I mean, pygmy bucks are short, but they're stout. Felix is very ... dainty isn't the right word... but it's what comes to mind. He's lighter boned and lighter bodied than a pygmy, so he'd probably make even smaller babies.

I'll think about that tomorrow. Tonight, I'm just a few clock ticks away from bed.

Happy Thanksgiving ya'll!

I've seen colts that are still nursing at 2 yo. And sometimes they act like they don't know if they should be nursing, or trying to mate w/their own mother!

Last couple days have been pretty good! I moved a bunch of goats around yesterday and got some copper into them. I pulled three wethers and put them in a separate pen away from their mamas on Wednesday. Got tired of having to feed another pen of goats separately - so I put an ad on Craigslist for them yesterday and they just moved to their new home about 15 minutes ago. Also sold two pullets...didn't really want to but I have a hard time turning down money when somebody is waving it in my face, lol!

DH's mom came Thursday evening and stayed until this morning. She's 84 and still sharp. She's pretty good physically too. She had a small stroke in September '14, but she's recovered very well. Boy - that woman can tell a story, lol. She's a lot of fun to have around. We had our second T-day last night with her, my son and his wife. OMG - I don't think I ever want to see food again. But, I've gotta say - it was GOOOOOD!

I've put several does with the new buck, Felix, and he's already earning his keep. I should have at least 3 bred to him now: one Nigi, one Pygmy and one Kinder. Boy what a bunch of mutt goats I'm going to have, lol. But, I'm going to have what I want and that's really all that matters to me. I'm going to experiment a lot with a cross between the Kinders for meatiness and milk, and the Nigi's for better udders. Of course, the Pygmies and the Nubians are still in the mix to create the Kinders and also to start a line of Mini-Nubians. Geeze, I need to retire to have time to do all these things I keep planning.

Happy Saturday ya'll!

Having what you want is more important than having a certain breed.

I agree!

And, as an added bonus - it looks like I'll be selling another goat tomorrow. I don't want to jinx it by saying that now - but I have some folks who are coming out tomorrow to look at a young Nubian buck. Hmmmm..... maybe I can find a few more to sell if I think about it really hard!
