DS8 got me started hanging clothes to dry in order to conserve electricity. In the control week, we averaged 35 minutes of dryer use per day. In the following 3 weeks, we averaged almost 7 minutes per day, in spite of doing more loads of laundry due to switching to cloth diapering at the same time. We saved total of 445 minutes of dryer time in 3 weeks. I wish I could translate that to kWH!

Call your electric provider. They will give you an answer ;)

I love to go to bed on line dried sheets, they smell so good.

i have an early memory of hanging clothes out in the sunshine; a huge flock of birds were in the neighbor's fig tree, eating the ripe figs and just singing their little hearts out. It was such a nice feeling- warm sun, clean smelling laundry, singing birds... and then the neighbor came out the back door screaming at the birds to shut up... broke up the moment :(

Me too! lol At one of our previous houses we made the mistake of putting the washing line right next to the chicken run and coop. Need I say more? Birds coming to steal the chickens' feed before perching and wiping their beaks on the freshly washed WHITE linen on the line that we so thoughtfully put up for them…. The plop was bad enough, but seriously?!? :rant

(We helped my MIL with her B&B linen, so often had white sheets and pillowcases on the line)

Luckily I've only had minor issues with bird poop, although with one of our dogs I had to put a fence around the lines because she would do battle with the evil sheets and then parade around the back yard with her trophies

Interesting! I want to go back to hanging the clothes again. We've been so busy that I haven't had time to hang because everything is a mess and trying to get the drying rack up in the house with junk piled everywhere doesn't work very well. My rack can handle about 1 load, sometimes 2 depending on what I'm washing all at once, so as long as I keep up on the laundry it works very well. I toss them in the dryer for about 10 minutes to bounce then hang them. Seems to keep them from ending up stiff.

I thought you were going to say the birds pooped on the laundry as well! We used to have a mulberry in our yard. The birds loved it. Only problem being, I'd end up rewashing half of my laundry. So, we took it down.
