LOL...you are right! I always feel like I am trying to "catch up" with "how you are supposed to do things" as far as my website is concerned

This is a fantastic thread! Thanks @MoonShadows for starting it!

We're very open to ideas and suggestions on continued activity, growth, and engagement on the special sufficient living community we have here! Obviously the best things we have immediate control over is being very helpful, friendly, and responsive to new members that join and post, and also posting really interesting discussion topics.

Keep up the great work!

FB is a huge forum killer unfortunately, but in our favour, there are still a lot of "old-fashioned" people who prefer forums. I am on FB, mostly for work-related stuff and to stay in touch with friends that live far away. Though I'm a member of 3 groups there, I seldom participate in them. I find it a nuisance, having to scroll through endless strings of posts and topics and "See more" to get to new comments. And then there is the cookies :rant Pre-FB, I cleared my laptop's cache once a year, if that. I had to do it TWICE yesterday!

But… for sales and marketing, the audience is there and it's a big one?

One issue I think you're having is exposure. If anyone has admin permissions they can look at the meta tags and see what all is in there. These tags are how the bots categorize pages on search engines.

Other than that activity level is the next most important thing. New and frequently updated pages often get priority in search functions.

I started fb after moving across the country away from family and friends. Most of them are on it. I am not on the three forums I am a part of as often as I would like. They don't work well with my kindle and I am not on my office computer as much as I used to be.

I know a lot of you don't like the journals, but I'm pretty sure that some of the people who have left left because they felt like no one bothered to read and post in their journals. It can be discouraging if you post and no one replies, and someone else posts and gets a ton of replies. They basically felt like no one valued what they had to say.

Sometimes I reply on a journal with a reply that may be what "I" have done today, similar, etc. I try to not look like I am stealing the tread but, it's more like having a "talk" with the poster & readers. Just don't want the journal poster to feel I was trying to butt in to their journal....some get annoyed if you say "this happened here today"....

I don't "do" facebook.......too many cookies.

Maybe we should start a thread "what did YOU do today"...LOL. I don't feel I should start a "journal" as I don't always have a daily post. I read them !!

Dear Diary....

That's what MY journal is for me. I can NOT tell you how many times I have gone back through my journal to find dates when things happened. I enjoy conversation with other folks who might have a response to something I've said...a suggestion.. a shoulder in some instances...

@Mini Horses is right. When folks respond to a posting it's like having a conversation with someone. I don't mind at all if my journal takes a turn because of what someone said about something. I never feel like folks are butting in. Many times they have good suggestions.

It may be boring for some folks... I have one of those boring lives, lol! I don't do daily posts many times because not much has happened in my life. Other times I might post several times a day... just because, lol.

I don't 'do' facebook either.

I tend to not post in journals at all. Its not that I don't care about what people are saying. Its just that it's a journal. I don't expect anyone to post in mine. But they are welcome to.

I guess I kind of see journals as a place to write your thoughts down or your happenings for you. Just like a normal paper journal but this is one that you're allowing everyone to see.

So please don't think that if someone isn't responding in your journal that they don't care. Many are probably like me and see it as a sanctuary that's public.
