I've had a few of my vacuum-sealed jars lose their seal after a few months. Anybody else have that problem, or knows what I might be doing wrong? I even tried using brand new lids; I was told that wasn't necessary but when I got my first failure I switched to new lids, but it hasn't helped. Right now I'm using the sealable bags instead.
I had some jars doing that until I started running my sealer twice on each jar. It doesn't pull the lid down tight enough with just the one cycle of my sealer.

I wish the economy would crash, so I dont have to go to work anymore. I just want to farm, raise animals and collect water. Paradise.

Its weird, but I could shovel, rake and haul stuff all day, and it doesnt feel like work... just natural...
When I go to work and turn on a computer it feels like a burden and chore.

I feel more comfortable sweating in the yard than I do sitting at a desk in the A/C.

Well, I love working in the yard, and with the critters - but since the computer is usually in an air conditioned environment - I won't complain too much about that! :D

I love working on my property and for myself much more than working for someone else. If the economy crashes, I think we are in much better shape than 99% of others. As I get older, if the economy crashes or not, I prefer to be more self sufficient and further removed from the mainstream.

I just worry that the other 99% is smart enough to find us, because it is evident that we are better prepared. So I'll stop short of wishing for that!
But I do feel the same way. My husband and I have given up a lot of what other people see as "normal" so that I can stay home with our daughter and take over the daily primary farm duties (I can't do fencing alone though!) and he works for himself most of the year, and then works at a skiway in the winter. So we usually make our own hours and do things when we want to.
I just wish I had known I wanted to live like this before I went to college and grad school. I would be very happy to dispose of those horrid student loans!
