I do still have family there in Marshall, and in Copperas Cove, Orange, and Shreveport. I haven't been home in years but am hoping to make a trip down in the next year or two. I'm hoping to take a month off and ride my motorcycle down.
In my opinion, East Texas is one of the best places on earth. Caddo Lake is where I think of when I think of home.
Good luck with your place. It's so much work but I love it and think the end results are worth the work. Besides, I'm definitely not a city girl.

Welcome from Arkansas. Well you sure have put the work in. I've only got chickens and my garden was a dismal failure this year but I'm living in the country which is what makes me happy. You came to the right place to learn country skills. This is my favorite social site.

I don't think I've ever heard of Hugelkultur squash. Is it a heirloom?
