    Plain Dress

I think the meaning of this biblical quote is to be in the world but not of the world. My interpretation of that is that although we live in the world and deal with the world, in our personal and worship lives we need to focus on non-worldly things (what ever your interpretation of that is). I...

    Got a free rabbit hutch

Checkout the breeds at the show but don't buy until you have had time to think about why you want a rabbit....meat....pet....fiber. When you decide to buy try to go to the breeders farm for pickup. Rabbit show are very stressful for the rabbit and since moving them to your home will be added...

    Plain Dress

I wear skirts (below my knee length), plain color long sleeve turtle necks in cold weather, plain color modest neckline teeshirts or campshirt type blouses in warm weather. Pants (jeans or sweats) only in my home or barn if involved in heavy duty tasks where a skirt could be immodest. Wear my...

    BarredBuff's Homesteading Shenanigans

Hey BB, Will be interested in hearing how the Lops produce as meat rabbits..... gain rate, feed conversion, etc. Years ago when DS was in 4-H we had Palomino and New Zealand whites for meat and Lops to sell as pets. Maybe we missed a meat deal with the Lops?

Need to learn "composting made easy"

You may not need to worry about thinning trees in the section where you pen goats. They have a habit of eating the bark, thus girding and killing the trees. No more leafy canopy and lots of firewood in a couple years. Goats are also great at poison ivy eradication. Doesn't seem to bother them...

What did you do to save $ today?

I have one just like it that was gifted to me several years ago. It works but holding the correct humidity is difficult so I don't use it much. Mine was all original parts and pieces. Think it is cool even if I don't use it as much as my newer cabinet one.

    Sheep milk info~Just a little FYI :)

LOL When my son was in Future Farmers he got teased for drinking goats milk. He was told it was too "goatie" and he would reply that is was better than their "cowie" stuff. Good, clean, fresh milk is tasty regardless of the source.

Ohiofarmgirl'sAdventuresinTheGoodLand-where ya been? whatcha been doin

When you're thinking about where to put your hives remember the weight of the hive body and the honey supers when full. Lugging a 60 to 80+ pound box up or down a steep hill with bees buzzing around can be exciting!! The first year I had bees they were on the hill behind the barn because it...

Want to come back on this forum after almost two years!

Momma..I retired last summer after more than 40 years in the education of special needs children and adults. I want to tell you that you will never know what a blessing your daughter is and will be to those she interacts with during her education. The children with the largest physical and...

    calling wool people!!!

You can open up the locks with a wire dog brush by holding one end of the lock and gently brushing(teasing) out the tip (or outside) end of the lock then reversing the lock and teasing the other (body) end. The goal of carding is to open the wool, removing dirt and veggie matter and get the...

    recycling clothes

Several used jeans ideas from a crafting group I belong to: 1) cut off jeans legs just below the crotch, turn inside out and sew across the legs, turn back to right side. Sew strips of colorful cotton material together to make handles. Thread the strips thu the belt loops and sew ends together...

    Does anyone raise bees?

Join a local bee club. I've learned so much from talking to other beeks. Just remember that if you ask 3 beeks for an opinion you will get 5 answers!! LOL. Read as much as you can and do what is best for your situation. I am changing to 8 frame hives because I have found that the standard 10...

Farmfresh City Homesteader - the sound of falling oaks.

All of you American Livestock Breeds Conservancy members out there who are near a TSC take a copy of the current poultry conservation list in and share it with the staff, especially those who are working with the poultry. ALBC and TSC are working together this year with TSC featuring...

    Raw Honey

Honey from local beekeepers( East central Ohio) is selling for $40.00 a gallon. Honey does not have to be old to crystallize. If you are buying from a local beekeeper ask if/how and for how long they feed their bees. It is common to feed bees a simple sugar syrup when you put new bees in a...

    Are CSA Worth It

We have participated in CSA for three years. The first two were traditional, pay a fee and get a basket each week. They had two sizes of baskets and we got the smaller one since there are just two of us. The produce was good, the quanities were good and sometimes very generous. I used fresh for...

    Floor loom assembly??

Wish you were closer to me....I've put several together and have taken apart, moved and reassembled others. Looks like a great loom and you already have what looks like cotton rug warp on the back beam. Once you get it up and sleyed you could learn to weave by doing some rag rugs or placemats...
