Welcome To Me
I am Gemma. This is me at 25 yrs old and aproximatly 318lbs In september of 2010 i had Gastric Bypass Surgery.
As of March 2012 ive lost almost 200lbs from my heaviest weight of 350lbs! I am a Bisexual Pagan, with typically liberal veiws, i do not however get involved in poltics or religion...two things wars are made from! I am disabled, i "suffer" from bi-polar disorder, general and social anxiety, mild agoraphobia and OCD. I also have light enduced seizures as a result of a head injury. I find comfort and acceptance in my animals, and have my associates in biology and only a few credits away from my BA in animal sciences and behaviour. I also have certificates in dog behaviour and grooming. Im currently looking into persuing a veterinary technician certification. I spent 2 years working as a veterinary assistant, 2 years working at a doggy day care, many years in shelters, and my most favorite job of all time was working as a zoo keeper for a small private zoo. Unfortunatly my head injury and other yickyness made working in a zoo education environment next to impossible. I am currently owned by 2 chinese crested dogs who are the absolute loves of my life . Jasper is my crazy baby boy, he turned 2 in janurary, hes a black spotted hairy hairless (though when he was born he was a tri-color) hes very needy, very crazy and were working on his dislike of strangers...hes also a bit of a barker compared to most cresties. but hes my baby, and i love him.
Ruby is my love bug, shes such a sweet and gentle soul, and a big tomboy too! ruby is the one who never fails to find a tree to climb, a chipmonk to chase or a mud puddle to splash in. She will be 4 at the end of February. I hope to add another female chinese crested to the family in the spring of 2012. hopefully a solid black, or heavily spotted hairy hairless...ill knwo her when i see her :D
Tempi (short for Not so Temporary, once was Temporary) came to join my little family in a round about way. I heard her cries one night behind a pub/resturaunt. I searched for 1/2 hour before i finally narroed down one trashcan and upon opening it there was a small black 6-8 week old kitten, shed been tied from the bottom up to the neck in a bag, and inside the bag her feet had been tied with fishing line. I filed a report with the police for animal cruetly, while no suspect was found i know karma will find them, and i brought her home, TEMPORARILY... You see, im just not a cat person...or so i thought. I called the shelter the next morning and after finding out the no kill wanted a large donation to be able to take this kitten i decided to find her a home myself... that was almost a year ago...and shes still here. Her personality won me over, considering all shed been through she is just a sweet, loving interactive cat. She is an indoor/outdoor cat and an amazing hunter, she keeps my parents chicken coop free of rats and mice!
Then Lokie joined the family. Lokie is a slate (or mauve) linneolated parakeet. She wasnt supposed to be here! I do pet sitting in my spare time to raise a little extra income...Lokies human contacted me and asked if id be willing to take this little bird into my home for a month as he whent away to florida. he offered to pay more than my normal rate and i agreed. 2 months later id heard nothing, i checked with his emergency contact, a neighbor, and she hadnt heard anythgin either. Long story short in November of 2010 we found out that lokies owner had been found, burnt to death after a car accident, hed had a heart attack at the wheel and slammed his car into a large tree. With no next of kin, Lokie ended up staying. I had her DNA sexed in January 0f 2011 she will be 1 yr old in may.
Jack Jack, the sever macaw was the first bird ive ever actually bought. I was looking for a little hahns macaw but his breeder contacted me, explained she had a 1 mth old sever and had to find him a home quick as she was going into hospital. I saw his picture and it was love. Jack Jack came home covered in down, with only his wing and head feathers. I have yrs of hand feeding expereince from other jobs and lots of hands on with macaws from working at the zoo...i never thought id buy one of my own, but something changed in me and i had to have this fantastic little monster! He came home about 3 weeks before my gastric bypass surgery. Because of surgery, and the fact that i wanted to abundance wean him, i taught my sister and my father how to hand feed him so that while i was in hospital hed be fine. Hes now right around 6 months old and while hes a wild child i couldnt have asked for a better feathered companion. Jack Jack is a snuggly, naughty typical macaw, he was weaned just before his 5 month mark of his own free will and started talking last month. Early for a Severe.
and Cricket. Cricket is a dna sexed male green linneolated parakeet... He joined our little family quite frankly because lokie was lonely. lokie has show no interest in being out of the cage for more than 5 minutes and i wanted to get her a friend. I was going to wait untill spring, but i saw an add for this little guy whod lost his mate and needed a new friend...and after asking the breeder, he agreed to meet me about 15 minutes from my home. Cricket came home that day and fit right in. He and Lokie are inseperable despite the occasional lovers quarrel. hes almost 3 yrs old, and lokie is still a little too young for laying, but next year im hoping for some beautiful blue and green baby linnies from them :)
And then came Willow, a long haired tortie Female, Tempis only female kitten of a litter of 3.
In October of 2011 i packed myself and the above critters into my sebring and moved 1300 miles away to Western TN where i prchesed a little house on 4 1/3 acres to start my homesteading dream!
Soon after THIS joined the family

Dozer is an American Bulldog x Cane Corso (italian mastif) born in october of 2011 I took him and his brother (his brother has since found an amazing home) from the side of the highay and dozer has now found a perminent spot on the couch. he should mature around 100lbs.
Pink Fox Farm as it is now called is alos home to Standard and Mini Rex rabbits, Runner ducks and has 2 Nubian Doelings joining us 3/18/12 Some more info about me... I love to sing, im particularly fond of the musicals, but like any music i can realy sing along to, nothing heavy or screamy. I was in alot of youth production musical theater growing up and would love to get back into it, the only time my SA didnt act up was when i was singing on stage lol. I also like to dabble my hand in almost all crafts and would love to learn more. I play with clay and wool and drawing and paint. Speaking of art, i also like body art, i have 5 tattoos right now, all of which i designed myself and all of which have meaning to me... you wouldnt know it to look at me though...i guess i dont look like the type of person to have tattoos lol. Well i think this is a good enough "about me" kind of page. Ill add more to this as time goes on. |
