Hi, I am Lori Adams and I live in Powhatan, Virginia with my husband and two children. We homeschool and just moved to a new farm on 3 acres with access to lots more acreage on adjoining family land where we hunt deer, turkey, squirrel, and rabbits. We also have access to 2 family ponds in walking distance from our house and we fish there quite a bit in the spring and summer. We currently have 9 chickens of different breeds--2 red sex links, 2 red comets, 2 standard light brahmas, a black australorp, an EE and one of unknown breed that was supposed to be an australorp. I raise indian runner ducks for eggs and entertainment and I am currently rebuilding my flock of black runners after a rooster who is no longer with us killed one of my hens. We are also getting into breeding registered nigerian dwarf goats and beekeeping. We are doing a much bigger raised bed garden this year and are looking forward to raising and selling cornish x meat birds again in the fall. We are also looking at getting a few head of cattle to graze on adjoining family land and possibly looking at a duel purpose breed like a dexter to milk as well. We also have a cat, Little Bit, a black lab named Tonka and a new bassett hound named Frawg. We are currently building a garage so that my husband can have a woodworking space and we can have a space under roof to process animals. We hunt deer every year and currently use it in place of beef. We are trying to produce as much of our own food as possible and minimize costs associated with everything. I also like to sew and quilt and try to read everyday.
