If you don't take an ionophore with zinc it will NOT inhibit viral replication. Take them together!

So, wash that zinc tab down with elderberry juice. :D I actually do but, unknowingly good.

With the extreme heat & lack of rain, some of my elderberry sites are far less productive this year. BUT last year I was "driven" to collect more than needed, so I'm still good with stores of it. Now I see why my Higher Power made me do it!!

@tortoise that is good to know! I haven't been taking zinc, but I sure will now! I take a selenium tablet, 200 mcg, daily because selenium fights off virus, now I will add zinc to the morning line up.

We are going Elderberry picking today! :weee

What do you do with the elderberries you pick? Is it an herbal tincture or simply can the juice? What is the best way to preserve fresh elderberries for use as a health benefit?

I make elderberry syrup and we take it during the winter. I froze the berries with 2 cups to a bag and got 9 bags. This is the recipe I use, but I don't use that much honey. I use about half that much. I don't use filtered water, I use tap water. the recipe calls for dried berries, available from Amazon, but I will be using fresh this time, have used fresh before.

Elderberry-Ginger Syrup

Elderberry Honey Syrup

2 cups dried Elderberries
6 cups Filtered Water
2 oz sliced, peeled ginger root, cut into small pieces
36 oz (Net Wt) Raw/Unfiltered Honey (Local honey is best)

Combine Elderberries, ginger and water.

On stovetop heat until boiling. Lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Pour into large fine screen strainer over a large bowl. Using large spoon, stir, scrape, mash berries until most of the fruit is off seed and moisture is squeezed out. Rinse strainer with an additional 1/2 to 1 cup more of filtered water, to get all the residual goodness of the berries.

Cool to body temp and add honey. Heating raw honey destroys the enzymes, which give honey it's healing qualities.

Pour into 1/2 gallon canning jar or 2g, 1-quart canning jars and refrigerate. I put some in a used honey bottle for easier dispensing. Store in refrigerator.

To minimize risk of getting the cold/flu virus, take 1 Tablespoon of this syrup daily. If you do get a cold, start taking 2 Tbsp three times daily for the duration of the illness plus 3-4 days.

Thank you so much!!
I haven't seen any wild elderberries around our place, but I know a couple of places I can go to pick some. I will be planting an elderberry or 2 in our "Pasture Orchard" for future picking though.
We have an old pasture area of about 1.5 acres that we want to put a fence around and use for free-ranging chickens. In that area we also plan to plant standard size apple trees, pear trees, elderberry and whatever else I decide that I want. The chickens should clean up any dropped fruit and the trees will provide shade and shelter.

Our friend and hay guy has Covid-19. His wife had it first, she is a nurse in a doctor's office, now he has it. They both have jobs of exposure, he works for a soft drink beverage company and is in and out of stores and public places all day. His parents live on one side of them, his grandmother lives on the other side of them. I hope neither of them gets Covid too.

I will be praying for the family.

A lot of stats are showing that the virus is becoming less lethal. While diagnosis is up (could be due to double testing, increased testing, or actual infection rate,) the death rate is way, way down.
The death rate is what the main stream media is leaving out. Right now testing positive for Covid, with or without symptoms, is the absolute worse thing that can ever happen to anyone (eyeroll).

Business owners have been careful to post the correct information on their entry door regarding the mandates for wearing a mask inside public places.

A small store I went to yesterday had a sign on their door that read: "Do your part, wear a mask, it's the law"

It's not a law, it's a mandate. This store has lost customers from offending people in the past, and this will offend more people. Possibly the business owner is afraid herself of getting Covid, however this is spreading mis-information..
