That photo was shared by a friend that wasn't at this particular farm but has seen many farms like it. It appears to be perfectly legal to keep your cows this way although I hope that many dairy farmers choose to go a different route.
Thanks MetalSmitten, I'll get the hang of this one day :/
Sadly, these cows will be lucky to live 4-5 years and that's with the help of generous doses of antibiotics. Isn't their normal lifespan quite a bit longer than that? It just makes me angry that our food supply has become so...
Check out this picture that was shared with me on Facebook of some dairy cows up to their udders in poo. If that's not a reason to get a cow (or goat or sheep), I don't know what is:
Edited: image not loading, I'll try again later.
Poor puppy :( I don't like it when mine are sick either.
I'm surprised that the vet didn't suggest fasting for 24 hours (water/broth only) to give their tummy a break. When my pups are sick I simmer chicken breast (bone in), add whatever veggies are in the fridge, clove of minced garlic and...

We have 300 acres and had considered putting a couple up but once we realized the size of these industrial turbines we decided that it...
There are lots of great ideas here!
We are planning a single story, passive solar, geothermal home with a walk out basement. Maximum 2000 sq/ft
The basement will include a root cellar (with access to the outside), wine cellar and a cheese cave along the north wall where there are no...
Pat, you could try throwing in some carrots with the turnips, cook and then mash with a little butter, salt and pepper. The carrots sweeten up the turnips for those that find them a bit too strong.
Good timing! I got this menu delivered to my inbox this morning and it sounds fantastic:

-Rosemary Crackers and Goat Cheese
-Mashed Cauliflower
-Chestnuts and Brussel Sprouts
-Kale with Cranberries
-Herb Gravy
-Cranberry Sauce
-Elana's Cranberry Apple...
For feeding you can try green tripe as a supplement to a good kibble? Here's an article on the benefits:

We feed our pups this as often as we can and I'm searching for a butcher that can supply me directly so that I can keep the cost...
