    Another hit on small farming...

I ran into this about 5 years ago when I temporarily moved to Canada for school. I went to my bank and deposited an amount over $10K to pay for my school and living expenses while living in Canada (wasn't allowed to work there). I specifically asked the bank if there would be any long term holds...

Naughty Shadow!! Need a new Chicken Feeder Now!

That's hilarious! Every morning I have a similar problem...goats make a bee line for the chicken feed and the chickens make a bee line for the goat feed.

are they realy going to do this?

The actual press release from DOL is here and states that the new regulations would NOT apply to children working on farms owned by their family.

    need help with rash

If you think it might be a yeast infection, then I would second the suggestion of eating yogurt or kefir and also try applying some to the affected areas. A good natural anti-fungal is Oil of Oregano. You can get the capsules and take them by mouth and also cut one or two open to apply directly...

    need help with rash

Are you using any type of deodorant? What about shaving? If so, I would recommend to stop using anything for a few days other than soap and water and see how it responds. If it clears up, then you will have found the culprit that is causing the problem.

Anyone know anything about Juice Plus????

This seems very similar to the Noni Juice stuff that is/was popular. I've had a couple of patients that used that stuff and said they had great results. But, when it became too expensive for them to continue using it, they crashed big time and then came to see me for treatment. I'm not sure what...

I got a 50# bag of it in Portland this weekend for $29.99. The blood meal was the expensive stuff at almost $50 for 50#.

    Gas...when will you see $4?

It has been over $4/gallon at most retail places that I've found here in WA for the past few weeks. We've been filling up at Costco and it hit $3.99/gallon last week there. BUT....yesterday we went down to Portland and the Costco there had it for $3.88/gallon PLUS...they pump your gas! That was...

KEFIR grains-Mind if we give them their own thread?

Technically, it will still get a little carbonated but the process is slowed way down, so not by very much. Once you have tested/tasted the batch and it meets with your taste and carbonation level, then cap it and refrigerate it. I use the swing top bottle instead of the caps, so it is easy for...

KEFIR grains-Mind if we give them their own thread?

I've just started working with kefir and lactofermented soda, so I'm not an expert about it all....but, I would think that you could do your second ferment for a few days and use an airlock or burp it every day or two until you have the taste you want and then bottle it and put it in the fridge.

    home made butter...yum!

Homemade butter is fantastic! Last week, I went a step further and made cultured butter with my kefir grains and the cream....OMG! I will probably never eat regular butter again!

    homemade liquid dish detergent?

I've never made a soap specifically for dishwashing although I have just used my regular soap to wash dishes with before. I should look into trying something...it would need to have a lot of coconut oil in the recipe I'm guessing. And to make it liquid, it would have to be made with potassium...
