I'm not sure what it is, but I get so excited about making my own "sugar". Maybe because I love sugar so much ;) I like to use syrup in my baking if I can, and skip the refined sugar.

Sounds like a decent set-up! Collection is definitely a challenge here, at least with me trying to do it by myself. I think how it will work from now on is I will collect the sap into our water containers (20 L) and leave it on the forest path for my DH to go and collect after work. I just can't...

Didn't actually get much more sap yesterday, we may have lost a bunch in the overflow! DH and I had a big fight about the evaporator last night, ok well maybe the fight part wasn't really about the evaporator per se, but the end result is that I'm going to be using the propane today to boil...

Well, we went out this morning and the buckets were overflowing! Will have to collect this afternoon as well. 20L of sap collected so far, if we get another 20L and boil tomorrow that will be about 2 pints of maple syrup.

Got most of the trees tapped on Saturday (6) Have 2 or 3 more to do. We didn't get out to collect today though! So I'll try to get out in the morning, once it's not too cold. I know you're not supposed to leave sap in the buckets, but sometimes that's the way it is. We won't gift anything from...

Sounds like you and I are thinking along the same lines @mythreesons290322 ! As for selling plants, it wasn't something I had really considered, but if I see there's a market for it, and once I get some greenhouse/cold frame/seed starting area set up, I would give it a try!

Ah wish I could contribute, I recently borrowed a book from the library to read up on it, and my sister has told me about a farm she visited that does it. So we're probably like you; we'll talk about for a couple years and then finally do it!

Ah I'm getting plant envy lol. Still very much winter here. But it's not freezing everyday which is nice (we'll just ignore the fact that it's above seasonal). Still, I'll be able to start some seedlings next month! Probably in 3 weeks
