    Sharpening the chainsaw

Thank you Flytyer, that is a lot of info, and I will digest it. Oh. Sometimes I scratch an X in the ground where I expect the tip of the tree to land. Twice I actually nailed it. I'm usually within a foot, and usually the tree is shorter than I estimated. Oh. I do not holler "Timber" when it...

    Sharpening the chainsaw

Yes, I use it right handed, and it feels good. I don't use it backwards. I tried, very carefully, a couple times, using it backward. It's not right. I use it like a right handed person, and it is good. Saxophones are actually a left handed musical instrument, djaknowthat? Lol!

    Sharpening the chainsaw

I can't actually tell where those oil ports are when I take the cover off for cleaning. I usually get a piece of broken wood with that angled edge of it to use as a cleaning tool. Seems to work pretty good. One time after cleaning my Stihl like this, the chain seemed to not be getting any oil...

    New Amish Ice Storage House

I get hot easily because of hyperthyroid. I noticed years ago that a garage with a concrete floor can be a nice cool place on a hot summer day. Concrete floors that do not extend to the outside provide coldness for some reason.

    Asparagus bed

When I lived in Montana we used to go collect Asparagus along the back roads. It had gone semi wild near a lot of the old and vanished homesteads. Yes, nearly always near an old ditch and or fence. It grows among the weeds and is hard to spot. What ya do is make sure ya bring a woman with you...

    Tomatoes from seed?

Eggrookie, I'd have to know a few things about what's going on with your tomatoes first. First, how warm is "warm enough"? It's those cool or cold hours that could slow their growth down even if most of the time they are warm enough. Second, what variety are your tomatoes? Some varieties...

At the risk of sounding crazy...

I... ...don't think it is solar flares doing it to people and animals. More likely we are getting older. Or, more likely it is radioactivity from those reactors over in Japan last year. That would be much more likely, so would be my best guess. There really are "THEYS" out there in the...

At the risk of sounding crazy...

I have this thing called ORBITS. Every time this beautiful planet of ours ORBITS that big bright round yellow beautiful thing called the sun up in the sky another time, I notice that I move slower than I did 12 months earlier! Not sure it has anything to do with solar flares though. Did you...

Pretty new to gardening... help? Tons of questions

Full sized tomato plants grow ok in 5 gallon buckets. Not quite as big. Use triple the dose of Bone Meal in good potting soil, not garden soil. Make sure there are PLENTY of drain holes on the bottom, and either have the bucket on a couple 2X4's or make sure there are holes on the bottom at the...

    Sharpening the chainsaw

I do only a very little ripping and don't change the angles, but it does dull the teeth faster. Hard to go real straight too. I cut a 10 foot length of 2X12 to 2X10" awhile back. That was tricky, but I got it acceptable. If anything like circular saws, my guess would be flat teeth? Maybe there...

    Tomatoes from seed?

I've heard a person whose grandparents were from Yugoslavia say Stupice was pronounced "Stoo PEACH kuh", but I read somewhere it was pronounced "Stoo PEESH". I have grown them, and they are very satisfying to grow. The size of a big Ping pong ball, a touch bigger. There seems to be a few...

Mmmmmm! Raspberries! :drool Mae West once said, "Too much of a good thing is WONDERFUL!". I'd only suggest you plant the Raspberries where you can easily dig up the root sprouts to plant in new Raspberry patches!
