    Haven't thought about this happening

I have been paying more attention to expiration dates lately. I know I wont be storing a lot of peanut butter. I noticed it doesn't have a good shelf life, it's only good for a year after manufactoring. The can of salmon I bought expires in 2013, that's excellent.

Nobody is saying to run out an buy out Walmart. Times are hard all over and we need to be more prepared. I know I see a big difference in my grocery receipts this year than I did last year and it's only going to get worse. Unemployment is at an all time high. I know I am going to start buying...

A lady added to my thread on BYC that they are already rationing food where she lives, in Illinois I believe.

Interesting read, http://jimbovard.com/blog/2008/04/09/martial-law-act-of-2006/ Yes, I was told that Mormons always a have a year supply of food on hand. It doesn't seem like they could take food you have grown on your own land and canned. That's not taking away from the public's supply of food.

    Any good self-sufficiency/homesteading books?

There is a book called, The Self-Sufficient Life And How To Live It, by John Seymour. It costs $38, that's why I haven't bought it yet, LOL. The www.mcmurrayhatchery.com has lots of books on preserving &country living. You can save a lot of money by buying them used off Ebay or Amazon.

Can you really be Earth friendly if you have children?

My Mom says all the time how she wouldn't have children with the world like it is now and that she fears for her grandchildren.

Kind of obvious - Hang out your clothes

I hang dry all our clothes and bedding. Our electric bill runs $136 a month, it's a little cheaper in the winter. Plus I make my own laundry detergent.

    Who here cans??

That reminded me of when I was little and my grandmother had some peanuts cooking in her pressure cooker. Me and my brother couldn't wait for them to get done so we decided to open up the cooker and peanuts exploded everywhere. We sure had some sore back sides, LOL. :weee
