The only Rx vitamin D is made by Pliva and it's D2 not D3. I use the D3 by Biotech. My levels never came up higher than the low 30s with the D2 by Pliva.
A friend of mine is a DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) doctor and his wife is a pharmacist and TACA (Talk About Curing Autism) Chapter leader. Their 7yo son has autism and they do a lot of dietary stuff as well as things with supplements and hyperbarics. They are big advocates of being gluten free and...
I think it's largely a matter of "following the money." Like the NIH study I linked to earlier in this thread regarding soy where they basically admitted that soy isn't some great wunderkind as it was advertised. That study is dated 2005 and given that studies take about two years to hit print...
Fortunately there's always someone who's "further into it" than you are. When my friends call me a "food extremist" I can refer to my friend who eats raw meat and is trying to convince her dh to let her give it to their kids (they have 4 kids ages 4 and under). I gave out honeycomb and kefir...
MMmm... Starbucks... we had a "playdate" there today with a friend. I ordered hot water and discretely added acv, coconut oil, and raw honey that I'd brought with me. I'm pretty good at it and I always tip them for the hot water since they don't charge me for it. The kids ordered those sandwich...
Isn't it a proud parenting moment? I used to avoid dealing with the issue by not going down those aisles, but now some of the stores are arranged so that the cereal aisles actually have other things that I need so I can't help but to take the kids with me. I decided that instead of agonizing...
Yeah, my kids saw that commercial. Then I made my 7yo read the rest of the ingredients. I was proud of her when she voluntarily put the box back on the shelf. Of course, we don't eat cold cereal here at all, so that helps too.
Check yard sales, craigslist, freecycle, etc. for a canner. Perhaps even consider putting a "wanted" sale on craigslist. I got my canner this past fall for $5 this way. It's an old one and came without instructions and needed a new seal ($1 at the hardware store), but I found directions online...
If you look here: http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/tp/soytp.htm#Report
you can download the report at the bottom of the page, but in 2005, the National Institutes of Health does a retroactive review of it's previous endorsement of "soy is good... soy is a wonder food" and thereby basically admits...
I don't believe that there is any one thing that can work for everyone because we're all different. For me, one of the most powerful things has been watching my children grow and empowering them to listen to their own bodies. This includes allowing them to listen to what their bodies need to...
What I'm saying is that when you read a particular study, you have be clear on what type of question you're asking when interpreting the results. They do perform studies within particular racial/ethnic groups based on the particular question. You can do a Medline search for a particular...
But we already know that doesn't work. Studies have shown that contemporary people of different racial and ethnic groups have different dietary needs, different responses to medications, different manifestations of illnesses, etc. We also know that there are variations based on gender and age...
Hmmm... just a few observations, and fwiw, I did my undergrad and grad in physical and medical anthropology and then went on to pick up a diploma in clinical massage therapy and have also been certified as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor.
Thin does not equal healthy and one...
It's well worth every penny I paid for it nearly two years ago now and I rarely buy a book brand new at full price! One of the things that it opened up for us in particular is the yummy world of raw dairy. Before then, we were 100% dairy free. I learned that lactose is converted to beta-lactose...
Thanks for the pancake recipe! Now I know what we're having for dinner tonight along with some real farm fresh eggs. ;) The kids have been pestering me about what's for dinner and I'm feeling uninspired since we had goat stew for lunch.
ETA it was a hit! I modified it a bit using two eggs...
