Hey BBrooks, I have a deer roast thawing, going to brine it starting tomorrow for a deer version of your moose ham. Since we are getting the smoker out, we are going to do pepperoni too. Have you ever made it? Not exactly sure on how long it should be in the smoker. About how long will a moose roast take? (ours is 3 lbs though, not 5)

When i was a kid, I read a book about the Hutterites, i used to dream about being a Hutterite. Havent really thought about them since. If I remember correctly, the book was called The Dream Gate.

So, what you are saying is, that if we don't worship the Christian God in the exact ways set down in the Bible (which contradicts itself numerous times) that we are doomed to death by said god???

I'm just trying to make sure I understand this correctly.....

I think it is really HOW you do it not the actual act. God knows our heart and knows if we are using a Christmas tree as a "pagan symbol" or something else. Romans 14:14 As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean. I think this applies to more than just food.

For example... in our home we taught the kids that the tree (which is a secular if not pagan symbol of Christmas) has special meaning for us as Christians. The evergreen is used to represent everlasting life. The lights on the tree represent the happiness that God sent to the world on the first Christmas. The star on top (we always have a star) is representative of the star of Bethlehem which showed the way to the Christ child. When they were little we also used to let them make paper chains to decorate the tree with. The chain links represented the road to salvation. Black for sin (Romans 3:23), red for blood to wash it away (John 3:16), White for salvation (John 1:13), gold for heaven (Rev. 21:18,21) and green for eternal life (II Peter 3:18). The kids had fun and at least in our house that symbol did have Christian meaning.

But as the above scripture states if these things are of a concern to YOU then by ALL MEANS don't do them. It is right that you should be as true to your personal beliefs as you can. God will honor you for that commitment.

I see no contradictions

With the first one I can see a difference, but I have not seen the text which it was translated from, so can't tell if they put the translators used the incorrect verb or not, but this is what I suspect. The words besought, and went in boldly...could be mistranslations.

The second one...I see nothing. The Sabbath had guidelines of things you could do on the sabbath and not be in violation of breaking the commandment, if that is what is being eluded to. However, the first passage says they prepared the spices, the second says they had bought them...likely both is correct. it was a mixture of spices that were used to annoint the dead. So, buying those spices and mixing/preparing are two distinctly different things.

Just wanted to add that the tradition of using a tree at Christmas time was to convert pagans and still leave room for them to have their traditional celebrations of Solstice incorporated into their new found religion. Originally that is..now it has been changed and such so that it is not recognized as a pagan religious symbol as much as it is a Christian religious symbol. I think it goes back to the Druidic(?) belief that gods were in the trees. Knock on wood also stems from that belief. In their beliefs knocking on a tree was a way for them to gain the attention of their god of the trees. Easter is a whole different ballgame, whole different god, whole different people group. I like to study older cultures and religions I find them fascinating
