ah yes... the old "i'm going corporate".... * ofg gives a knowing nod * well then you need to brush up on your corporate speak. try to work into conversations "synergy" and "over arching goals" and stuff like that. ha!

i'm told it's not fun to watch but I did tell the slaughter house I'd like to see it once just so I can say I have.

your chick pic is slayin me... i normally see that and start screaming "chick down! we have a chick down!" and then try and perform CPR. until the little one sees a huge mouth coming its way and starts running for its life.

Well....the bigger monkeys are taking their sweet time. The good part is that we're not all city-corporate since we're still somewhat out in the country. I've made everyone fully aware of my 2nd full and a half time job at home, explaining that I'm not a "let's have a martini at happy hour and get home at 7 pm" kind of girl. I've beenn here long enough that they know that part of me anyway, so the more they push me to join in those "fun and exciting business golf tournaments" (I HATE GOLF) the more I invite everyone to my house for butcher day. That gets them every time.

The big wigs have been taking turns with vacation so my "interviews" aren't taking place until next week. Then it will most likely become official.

Everything at home is as usual. The heat has broken and we're loving summer right now. We go camping at a state park on the 24th...little g is so looking forward to it. We all love camping and the fact that it's so close to home is a huge perk. We can still run home and take care of everything once or twice a day which lessens the stress of planning a vacation.

I have some awesome pictures of the guinea keets again. Seems they like that dead sleep look...when I was checking on them one evening they all had their heads hanging down as they were perched sleeping. It was quite a site - OFG, you would have needed a whole army of rescusitators to bring those 15 keets back to life!

I sold 100 bars of soap to a local wholesale nursery! The "inside sales girl" found me on facebook and it turns out we went to high school together (makes me thank God I wasn't one of those mean b's during that time!). They give tours of their facility to their clients every August and give out gift bags. Their normal soap person went MIA and never returned any calls so they came to me! It was such a wonderful thing when she emailed me and said my quote was accepted by her boss and an even more wonderful thing when she came to my house with the check to pick up the soap. I couldn't thank her enough. Now I'm busy soaping up to replenish those 100 bars!

We had a meat bird for dinner last night. I love them. I remember the first time I ate one of our chickens several years ago...made me want to puke in my mouth. Now I can't get enough. I baked the whole bird in the oven, nothing special, just salt, pepper, garlic and some other stuff, then carved it like a turkey. Served it with baked potatoes and green beans from a family member's garden. then I took all the leftover meat off the bird, tossed it in the crock pot with carrots, celery, potatoes, bay leaves, basil (I love basil) and this morning added chicken stock for tonight's dinner and put it on low for the day. I can't wait.

We had the cow for dinner last saturday when we had some friends over - London Broils, T Bones, and some Sir Loins. The city folk were in love! They actually were really fun to hang out with and said that they had no idea CT was this nice. They're used to the dirtier "city" places that aren't really fun to be in and never really ventured out of that zone. On their way to my house they couldn't believe how nicer and more country it got. We gave them the full fire-pit experience, even bringing out the pop up tents when it started to rain. Couldn't let rain get in our way, no sireee, we had to have s'mores afterall! All the kids got along great too, which is always a plus.

I have put the 2 alpines, Stella and Venus, up for sale and I'm debating on selling Mallory, the nubian, once April passes away (she's still doing great, though - lumps and skin and bones and all). We're going to sell a cow or two as well and try to trim the animals down a bit. I'm thinking I might start breeding the goats at the end of this month instead of the end of September to get earlier babies. Things are changing in our house and we have to make room. Guess that's all I say about that! Hee Hee....

As for the chicken...next time toss in the bones and a few glugs of raw apple cider vinegar. Cook in the slow cooker for a couple of days. That bone broth is full of minerals and very good base for soups.

I read that thread a while ago and thought to do just that, but don't have any ACV and really really wanted chicken soup tonight. It'll definitely be on the to-do list next time I cook a meatie roast!

Whoa...hard to believe it's been almost a month!

I can't really blame my absentness on the new position; as I'm sure henrietta has mentioned we got pretty hard by Irene and lost power for 6 days. then I've been busy making soap because I've got 2 shows coming up - one in two weeks and the other mid-october. A local vineyard is having an Oktoberfest and I've asked them if they would like me to create a special feature wine soap using one of their red wines. They L O V E D the idea so they gave me 2 bottles of red wine and I've been doing test batches. So far the first one came out well, nothing I'd like to sell because, IMO, it doesn't really give the impression I want it to. Not enough wine in the batch. So the 2nd batch I tried I did 50% goat milk and 50% red wine....great except I didn't let the GM/lye mix and wine cool enough so the batch went to trace WICKED fast and I had to glob it in the mold. It went through full gel, something I'm not fond of, but they know I'm just doing tests now and whatever soaps I make now I just give to them for personal use. Next test batch is still going to be 50/50 but I've already boiled the wine to get rid of the alcohol and it's chilled in the fridge so hopefully the soap won't gel.

Anyhoo...

We went camping the week prior to the storm. We had a great time and it was very relaxing except they made us leave on Saturday morning to prep for Irene. :/

We've also been spending time cleaning out the chicken and goat houses. The chicken pen just needed a good ol' cleaning and I wanted the goat pen to be in top shape for when one of my bucks, Duke, comes to visit the ladies. So we got that done and the gals all got pedicures. This past weekend Opi, my pigmy, went to my friend's where her boyfriend Jack lives and in exchange I brought my other buck, Duke, back to my house to stay with Eloise, Fudgie, Mallory, Venus, Stella, Jenny and Katie. Duke doesn't really know what to do with himself. The second I put him in the pen the girls rushed to him and started loving up...he must have felt like such a big man!

Opi wasn't as keen on seeing Jack as she was last year. Last year she was doing flips when she met him, literally, and this year she was more upset that I was leaving her there. Last year Jack was with me so Opi got to stay home...I'm sure after a few days she'll settle in and be happy as a clam.

April has gone to stay at my friend K's house. She has 5 other goats and no bucks so it's a safe place for her to be.
