It is that time of year here in south-est, central-est Wisconsin. Morel time. Much of this afternoon was spend hunting the elusive mushroom.

Close to 300 were found, divided between families, and prepared for supper. I kept the smaller ones to dehydrate for winter mushroom soup.

I always wanted to go morel hunting, but I need someone who's willing to show me the ropes. Out here, seems like no one wants to share their hunting grounds or something, because I haven't been able to get a mentor

Dang I'm jealous. I used to pick morels growing up. Delicious! I haven't found any wild ones here. I'm thinking of getting some spawn from Fungi Perfecti down in Olympia, just south of me. Put it where I want it and harvest when the time comes.

We have morels here (BC, Canada - above Washington state). They grow on our land, and in the surrounding portions of our valley. Some years they're more abundant and easily found than other. Yes, delicious. We sautée them in butter.

Anyhow, congtatulations.

I know this is an older post but I was shocked when I saw this picture (had to investigate) I rember hunting these for 2-4 days at a time as a kid. We'd go to some woods where my uncle hunted turkeys, they where the best place to hunt for them hands down

Right, @Myhouseisazoo2, there is a pretty short 'hunting season' on morels. The right temps, the right rainfall, and they pop up almost overnight. They are gone within a few days. Where are you (general area only) that you hunted morels as a child?
