Wow, just wow.

Why start a topic on a public forum if you can't tolerate another person's opinion?

There is a difference between a debate and being a bully.
Exactly my point.
Taking the thread way out into left field with a flaming attitude is not helpful. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Many differ. But the direction this was taken had NOTHING to do with the subject of the thread "on a public forum" and managed only to detract from the issue in what seemed to be an intentional way of attracting attention. How droll...

Well ok then. Wasn't trying to incite a riot, just an opposing veiw. Good luck with the library.
thank you. I don't argue your opinion, but I found it disagreeable to the topic. there are lots of places we can debate the issue you raise but it isn't in this thread.
Everyone is entitled to an opposing view, but there is a way to do it in a dignified manner and in the right setting.
You didn't start a riot. You simply chose the wrong thread to post that opinion and in some way it seemed to be voicing your disapproval of the project. If you don't like the project, why not simply ignore it?
I, of all persons here, enjoy a good, dignified debate. I try to conduct it in a way that relates to the issue of the thread.

I hope we can move past this now. The project is still (IMHO) worth doing. I don't worry about what will happen to EVERYONE else. I care what happens to me, my neighbors and my family MOST. That is why I am where I am...and will stay.
Cheers,
Trim sends

Many of the old major libraries burned. Does that somehow detract from trying to save what information you can.
of course the monks only preserved what their leadership approved of, but how much of that would have been lost entirely had they not done so.

actually tc556guy, another thing those old monks saved, was a lot of the "pornography" from the ancient Greeks and Romans. A lot of the best preserved art seems to be stuff with naked people in it, even though that wasn't exclusively what artists and writers painted/sculpted/wrote about ;)

I believe it. Sexuality has always been a popular artistic topic, even amongst those who would condemn it

It wasn't always condemned. That came from the Puritan psychology, I think.
