Been over a week since I posted on Craigslist and NOT ONE response on the piggies! UGH! Hope it's not like that selling goats t his year or DH and I are gonna be eating a lot of goat and pig, lol. Not that that's a bad thing of course. Just means we will definitely get a lot of practice butchering.

I called the packing house the other day to see about having the boars done - just because the neighbor is so stinking busy. It's a $40 kill fee and 65cents a lb hanging weight to process. I can even bring them in dead and skip the $40 kill fee - BUT - if dead they have to be gutted and skinned. Uhhhh... it's worth $40 to me to have somebody else do the gutting and skinning! Biggest issue is that I don't have a working trailer right now. I could probably construct a pen for the back of my truck and load it with the tractor - but how to get them out of it and to the ground once we reach the butcher? Geeze! I need another trailer. The one I have - that needs a lot of work - is my old show trailer and it's only 10ft long anyway. Saw a nice prospect on Craigslist Friday evening. Saturday morning I was about to respond to the posting and it was already gone. GRRRRR! I don't want to buy a new trailer - but every decent used prospect is a couple hours away and is sold before I can even respond to the ad. Better keep looking I guess.

Should be having kids pretty soon! I think the first gals are due sometime in the first week or so of March.... maybe the 6th or is it the 8th? Guess I better check my calendar, lol. Don't want any of them dropped in a mud puddle out in the pasture. Please God, let it be a doe year!

Ugh! I'm having the same issue with my goats! Only one response- from a meat dealer. I ignored him.

Yay babies! I can't wait to see! How many pygmy does are bred? Pygmy babies are the cutest!

I guess we'll be eating a lot of pork! That's not a problem for me though - I think pork is my favorite meat anyway.

I think I've got two pygmy ladies bred. I've got one that I need to put with the buck and leave together cuz she's never settled and she's a fairly young, fit doe. I'd like to build back up my pygmy numbers and she's not helping me any!

Just got a lead on a trailer possibility. It's actually an insert that goes on a 16 foot low boy trailer. Lot better money than buying a whole new trailer - that's for sure. But, the loading on and off the low boy might be an issue. Guess once I got it on there I wouldn't have to take it off very often though...

Kinda cool and looks like it's in decent shape. $1400 is better than 6K for a whole new trailer! Might have to get serious with this guy. I like versatility and this would be versatile.

Ramps? Works for me. Couple pieces of plywood, ground to trailer. Sprinkle corn up & in.

My kill & chill fee was $50. WORTH IT. They also cut them in big sections for me, in half down back, the 1/3 behind shoulders, in front of hips. Just having them totally chilled was great! And, they had been scalded & de haired. Then, I could put the sections into large tubs with ice, transport & cut/package at home.

OH -- CL.......I renewed mine each week, took 2 weeks of nothing, then wham! 4 replies within a couple days. One buyer took all 8 I listed. Then 2 more inquiries before I got add down.

We don't have trailers like that around here. Maybe it's a Texas thing?

@Mini Horses - no ramps with the insert - but I've go an expanded metal one that came with DH's smaller trailer. It'd work fine if I needed one. Yep - I've changed up the wording some on the ad - added different pics - trying to keep it fresh, lol! I'm not giving up!

@Denim Deb - I've seen several of them around. I tried to buy one last year, but it was snatched up before I could get to it. Corresponded with the guy several times - trying to get him to deliver it to me. My trailer tags are expired and I'm trying not to drive a 3 hour round trip until I get them up to date.
