I haven't been on here as much as BYH but I suppose it's time for an update.

This time of year is hard for me because the ground has been white and frozen solid for months and I'm sick of it! Next is a month of mud, and it's going to be bad this year because we got 3 feet of snow late in the winter. Fun! This is why we need 4wd in NH!

So DH is going to TN Thursday. I've seen a bunch of places worth checking out and our friends have a list of places as well, and a realtor friend who's planning on spending a day with them.

I'm feeling a bit flustered, I don't like uncertainty. I have been doing a lot of calculations on costs of living as well as farm plans and expenditures. It would cost $5-10k less per year to live in TN, without looking into electric bills and such. We spend $1500/year just on pellets to heat our house and our taxes are $2500.

My mother is the queen guilt tripper and is going to flip if we move. Am I a total jerk if I move her grand child away?

I'm also trying to downsize... But DH is sort of a pack rat/hoarder and won't get rid of things. We'll need it someday... He says. Sure we will.

Anyway critters are good. Next month I'll try to grab some turkey eggs to incubate, if they ever start laying!

I'm with ya on the move - it makes sense! Living where you are basically shut down several months a year might be ok for some folks - but not for a homesteader!

I hope your mom will realize that you need to do what's best for your family.

My DH is a packrat too - even though he'd never admit it!

Hope the trip to TN goes well and you get lots of viable options!

Several meaning... 5? Haha it's annoying to say the least! I'm also trying to convince DH that breeding pigs is not sustainable... It would cost us a fortune. Unless we go with a couple of AGH's. Still trying to figure out what's worth doing and what isn't.

That's no good! We're not frozen during that time - just wet, wet, wet! But, at least things still grow!

Nope, dead here! Frost free dates are like June 1-mid to late September. Wow seeing that in writing is kind of depressing! A lot of things can't mature in the garden without cold frames.

Our daughter and son in law moved 3 hours from us, so we moved too. LOL Living your own life does not make you a bad daughter. You have to do what makes you and your family happy, you have your own daughter to think about. Your mom can always come visit when it is frozen in NH. I think moving to a more hospitable climate would set you free. Free to live the life you desire and deserve.
