I put marigolds with tomatoes this year! I read about it as a kid but wasn't enough "together" to get seeds started. 4 puny little marigold plants. I hope they survive!

You know what I love about marigolds? All season long you see them there and it doesn't look like they are growing or doing much, but slowly and surely they are mounding up and getting ready for a fall show. Then, just when the rest of the garden is dying off in a tangled up mess, there are these huge mounds of orange and yellow flowers, just in time to show off the pumpkins against and give the garden some fall beauty. :love

Like these....tiny, stunted looking single plant all spring and into summer, then all the sudden~SHOWY MOUNDS OF GOLD! You just think they are puny now, Tortoise, but just you wait.....mounds of gold, I tell ya! :woot

Well, heck - ya'll have inspired me to put some flowers in my garden. I did try...I planted some sunflowers but either they didn't come up - or I weeded 'em. :hide

:D Sounds like my DIL....I slowly but surely was filling her small BTE garden with perennials I had transplanted from here or gotten on discount at the end of the season, etc. Come fall, the only thing she did in the garden that year was to go out and "clean out the garden"...that resulted in her and her mother pulling up nearly every perennial~grapevines, honeysuckle, dwarf butterfly bush, blanket flower, tickseed, strawberries, you name it, they pulled it~and throwing them out in the trash to be hauled away before I could intervene. The only thing they didn't pull were the weeds. o_O One honeysuckle was hidden behind the porch and survived their efforts and one tiny clematis survived, but barely...it's still hanging in there.

I've OVER planted on marigolds this year and, after seeing those pics once again, I've decided to thin them out and plant them elsewhere on the place. I've got flower beds still waiting for some color, so I'll place them there.

I weeded the Johnson grass out of the corn yesterday. Today I'll be pruning the tomatoes and propagating more plants from the trimmings. I'll also be starting some more seeds, various vegetables, and planting a boatload of flowers. I think I'll have a truck patch with all that's going to be started today. Job#3 in process.

Not garden per se, but I did get the pruned branches almost cleaned up. Just need to dump them in the kindling pile for shortening. I'll finish mowing later when it cools down

Right now the pushy dogs won't let me off of the bed. They knew I overdid it before I did. Now they are still playing nurse
