Here it is Friday June 23rd. WOW, where did this month go?
Just found out last night that my Uncle is coming home again next weekend. He was never home like this when his son, my cousin, was here so I hope it's not because I'm here all by myself and he doesn't think I am capable of maintaining and tending to his property on my own because of being a female.
Sure, there's times where I get a little nervous ( beginning of week for instance) power was out because of a storm and had been out for 5 hours; didn't know how much longer it was going to be out so I was finally able to get a hold of a family member so I could get assistance hooking up the generator because I didn't know how much longer the power was going to be off for but by the time that person got her the power was back on.
Only because I'm so cheap but also trying to become self-sufficient I made up my own insect repellent spray. The following is what I used:
10-12 ounces WHITE vinegar
8 drops Iodine
1/8th cup rubbing alcohol
Bugs hate me now including those pesky irritating deer flies!!!
I know, I know just because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for everyone else but just try it before judging it.
The herb bed that's out by the side of the road. First pic yesterday before, second pic today mid-clean up, third pic today after. Yup, the one in the back is GARDEN SAGE. I know I have to trim it seeing how it's growing so good but what do you do with Garden Sage.
On thing I'd recommend to anyone moving to a rural situation is to develop a friendship network. Be open, at least, to meeting people - and treasure the ones you feel you have an affinity with.
Besides increasing how good you feel about being in the country, I think this is very important for the exchange of ideas and know-how.
