Don't wash it, keep it whole. Tastes just like fresh when you take it out to cook it. It only needs to thaw about 5 minutes before washing it and cutting it up to cook.

I cut mine up, spread it on cookie sheets and blanch in the oven. I set it on 350* and put them in for about 10 minutes. Then I package them in ziplock bags and freeze. The okra is super slimy when it thaws out and it makes the cornmeal stick even better than fresh cut okra. It makes the best fried okra!

We cut it into slices raw - coat with corn meal, load up freezer bags and freeze. But when it first comes in, I'll make a huge pot of seafood gumbo and my wife will pressure can it.
I really like deep fried okra so that's probably why we freeze it this way.
Okra is crazy... Got to pick it everyday and if you miss a day it gets too big to eat overnight.

I fry mine, and put it in soups. I don't like it boiled. And yes on the cutting every day...I'm gonna have lots of seed

Kind of green bean, kind of asparagus, very unique flavor..hard to describe...if it's fried till it's not slimy it's really good. I like mine a little crunchy.

Yes ma'am! Okra is great, and actually fairly versatile. I like it to thicken soups too. Slimy is useful in that way lol!!

Wow you never tried okra??? Congrats I don't believe I ever met someone who has never tried okra before but I don't get out much either -:lol
Wannabefree is so right... But I would like to add. If your gonna try it for the first time don't try that snotty whole frozen stuff you can get at the grocery store - unless your gonna toss it in a soup to thicken it up. If you try it alone you may just get turned off because it can be mighty nasty even to a guy who really likes okra - like me.
