One of my dogs eyes is messed up today. Idk what happened. But she's holding it closed and the pupil is almost completely closed. Any ideas what may have happened in the 2 hours I was gone today?

Poor thing. Sure hope it's something simple. I've seen one of my dogs squint like that when two of them play too hard and might get a scratch or a bump to the eye. It doesn't look swollen - just squinty. Have you taken a look in it to see if she's got a piece of debris or a turned in eyelash?

Not that I can tell. What's wired is the iris is completely constricted on that one eye

My outside dog gets something like that every spring just like clock work. The vet told me it's inherent in a few breeds and there is not much I can do to prevent it. The vet gave me some medicated eye drops, a steroid and a antibiotic - it drasticly decreases the time in which he has it. Poor guy paws at his eye and keeps it almost shut.

I agree with rinse and wait and see as long as your dog isn't distressed and there's no drainage. Pawing at it is bad because of the likelihood of secondary trauma.

Use eye wash if you have it on hand. if you only have water, just rinse once and stop. if you continue flushing with plain water, you'll cause an ulcer over the whole cornea. I learned the hard way. I had a mini poodle with eye issues and a couple eye injuries!
