I'm attempting growing strawberries from seed. Only one has germinated so far and it's shockingly tiny seedling. I'm not hopeful...

That IS pretty cool....we don't have a program like that.

@tortoise - glad you told me that! I even looked at WallyWorld today and didn't see any. Guess it's a case of 'you snooze you lose.' I shoulda thought about it earlier I suppose.... However, I did pick up two white eggplant plants. Never had those so hope it will be a good purchase. And picked up some of those Japanese cucumber plants... I usually don't buy those kind of things started cuz they do so well from seed - but these were marked down and there's about 6 of 'em in one pot.

Could NOT find any Lima bean seeds so I'm gonna dig back through my stash and see if I've got some hiding in there. I WANT some stinking Lima beans and I don't think that's too much to ask, lol.

I love Lima beans but I don't need anything else to tend to!! Lol!

I like limas better than green beans. But I don't even have a single seed out yet! We actually had frost early this week. So very, very unusual for my area. I am hoping I have a day next week to till. Still have work to finish for my "paycheck people" an it's supposed to rain again tomorrow. Saturday a cheese demo to do and SUNDAY I AM OFF !! At this point, looks likes I may have two days I can be home next week. It's our seasonal rush time.

On a BETTER farm note, Another doe kidded twins B/D and now only one more. Since I was not as good about writing down dates of breeding -- you know you forget exactly once you wait a day or two -- I am saying she is due "anytime" I'm at 3 bucklings & 3 doelings right now. 5 black, 1 brown . New Saanen buckling is just a lovebug and I cannot wait until next Spring!! I so want a lot of girls by him. I don't know why I keep breeding them because I do not need more milk! (Will sell some in-milk does next year!!) It seems to be a part of the goat math syndrome. FEM, I know you can relate -- especially with Conan . We are a pair! I need a name for mine.

Ahhhhhh......Last week I had caught an egg breaker and penned her to cull but knew I had another. This weekend I found another with wrong end pointing out of nest, pecking away at one she had broken. YES!!!! They are so hard to catch in the act. Put her with culprit #1 and so far, have not had another broken. Now one of the days off next week I must end the wait for these 2 & some excess roos.

See -- you can feel ok with not having everything done -- most of us are in same boat. Frustrating. I need to retire, retire. We are both on countdown! The transition time is hard. Bay, I like the pyramid...but, until I am at full time at home (next year now) I don't have time for more to tend. Can't wait!!!!!!

I have a whole pen of egg eaters. But since I am at home, most of the time I can beat them to the eggs. They will be on their second molt this fall, so they are destined for the soup pot anyway. They are Delawares and were a mistake from day 1. I will never have Delawares again.

A name for your buck? I would name him Charisma. He is the foundation of your future herd, he is beautiful and the does will love him.

I think when/if I get strawberries that I'll try a PVC pipe planter. I've had strawberries in the ground and the slugs/pill bugs get to them before I do. I don't like that and I don't like poison either so I'm gonna try something different. May have to wait until next year to do that

OR - I might need to make another trip to my favorite nursery!

I have nothing in the ground either. Super late frosts and drenching rain...backwater is out at the river bottoms we've had so much rain lately...can't till or plant in knee deep mud smh We will all get there eventually. At least y'all have animals to distract you!!!

Some of my plants don't look great...probably the crappy store bought soil I put in the big tubs. I mixed in some goat poop/compost when I filled the tubs, but probably maybe didn't put enough in. Of course I was worried about putting too much so I maybe, just maybe, did the opposite. I'll add some poop and poop tea and see if they pick up a bit.

But, on a better note, I've got a few peppers that I can probably pick in a couple days and TONS of green tomatoes and blooms. Zucchini plants will be blooming soon too.

I've GOT, GOT, GOTTA mulch...weeds are looking way too healthy. I've got plenty of feed sacks and a bunch of old hay that I'll be mulching with. Hope to get to that soon.
