Yep that it's name... Pikes Pole. Makes no sense but I suspect some guy by the name of Pike invented it but IDK for sure.

Here's a picture of two Pikes Poles in use - don't these guys look like they are enjoying their job?

Very cool you actually have one and now you know a little more about it and how to use it :)

Long handle is needed for safety I would guess.

Dont see why it wouldn't work as a zombie weapon either.

And a straight grain white ash handle too (strong like bull ox) they make baseball bats out of white ash.

So my husband said these were originally designed for moving logs downstream. They rode on top of the logs and used the pikes to break up logjams. A lot of people fell between the logs and died. Happy job huh? Then someone realized they would also work for harvesting ice. He knows them as log pikes.

Husband sounds like a smart guy. It's interesting to me to know a little more history around the pike. Thanks for sharing.

He is a pretty smart guy for someone who almost didn't make it through high school. Showed me how schools fail kids who have alternative learning styles too often.

I've got to get him to dig out some old tools so I'll have something to challenge you folks with :)
