I went to the local county extension office last week, and they told me that I could get free apple trees today for arbor day. Arbor Day isn't until Apr 27th so I was a little confused, but free is free. Our goal was to plant 5 more fruit trees this year, and 5 next year, then we'd be pretty much done. (I did some research, and they celebrate Arbor Day here the last full week of February.)
So I brought a friend who did not want any trees, but promised me hers. I was hoping for at least 2-4 trees.
Our goal here is to have bees next year, and within 5 years, have a productive orchard, berry bushes, nut trees, garden, with our own chickens, rabbits, tilapia, and pork. And LOTS of flowers and clover to support the many pollinators and bees.

God is soooo good!
:weee
Today I got FREE:
2 Braeburn apple trees
2 Arkansas Black apple trees
1 crabapple tree
4 pawpaw trees
4 redbud trees
1 chestnut tree
4 flowering plum trees
And several others that I forgot the name of but will plant anyway

And the apple trees were almost as tall as my shovel. No little twigs!! :yaWoohoo!!:weee

I get TONS of free yarn -- mostly new and unused skeins -- from people who got the crafting bug to knit or crochet, got bored or frustrated with the process, and bagged it all to go in the back of the closet, where it sits unwanted and unremembered. All I do is put out the word, especially to people who have access to a bulletin board at work to ask for "unwanted yarn and projects."

Sure saves me a lot of money I'd otherwise have to spend at Michael's or Walmart.

Today I was helping my neighbor clean her back yard, and ended up with three pickup loads of the extra metal roofing from when they reroofed their house. Many of the pieces are scraps, but at the very least, I have over 4 loads of misc metal if I just want to scrap it. Lots of different sizes but I was looking for some to reroof an old shed I have. It's not very big and I don't think it will matter if I piece it together. I also got a 6'x6' or larger?? piece of chain link fencing, that should work well for a gate or for a garden trellis. I brought back two pickup loads today, and have more to get tomorrow.

I also gained access to as much as I want of the deep deep layers of leaves in the woods next to us. The leaves have been composting for years and years. I'll be adding a lot of that to my garden area.
