Surprise! I have a promising lead on a service dog prospect! I go meet her tomorrow. Sounds as perfect as can be. Cross your fingers for me! It's a long drive and I hope I won't be disappointed.

Oh wow - really hope that works out! Hope your long drive is worth every minute. Would you be bringing her home tomorrow or is this just a 'meet and greet?'

I brought her home. She's pretty awesome but not perfect. Her life in the last couple months has been tumultuous at best, so I'm trying to withhold judgement until she settles. Her name is Bay, short for Baymax ("your personal healthcare assistant" from the movie Big Hero 6). She is a blue Great Dane. She has been trained to livestock, so no worries there! yay! Great with the kids. Not so sure of hubby - and that's concerning, but again, we will see. She has very little or no obedience training and no public exposure. eeeh, umm, kay?? But she is mostly trained for bracing by her previous owner. She's about 90% trained there, so she's already helpful. She is learning to go up and down stairs one step at a time, and brace in between. Stairs are my #1 priority with her because they're the most dangerous part of my house/day and I don't have any other equipment that can work on stairs. So I pleased that she can start pulling her own weight right away because she has lots of training to do.

Like getting her to go potty while on a leash. Don't take that for granted. Maybe she's constipated?

She's learning to stay off of beds and the couch. There's on bed/daybed/couch she can be on and I usually sleep there. So that's fine. DH doesn't want her on the couch or master bed - and frankly neither do I! she's too big for our couch (loveseat, actually) and I have white hotel linens on our master bed that I don't want messed up.

In related news, I remembered an organization I started with 2 others, about a decade ago. I don't remember many details, but one has kept a FB page going for it and when I contacted him, I received a warm welcome. That was nice. :) We might still make something of it! I also contacted a new dog trainer in my area who works with service dogs. I have more qualifications than he does, honestly, but the price of classes is a fraction of anywhere else so it will work. I'm also helping a friend train her dog to be a service dog. She is so disabled she is unable to file for SSDI. but after another recent hospitalization she is getting more proactive about her healthcare and selfcare. So I am happy to have a training buddy. Our dogs are quite different in temperament and will do totally different tasks, but are about the same place in training. Feels good to have some community again. I'm quite isolated here since I moved 9 years ago. Before moving I had service dog friends and customers and we would all train together on the weekends. I miss that! I will probably have that again soon! :love

In SS news, I'm scheming to make my dog's mobility equipment. I have sewn dog harnesses in the past, I have the skills. Do I have [metaphorical] spoons? Maybe. They're really easy to sew. Hard to measure! but easy to sew! I plan to sketch, measure *twice*, and order supplies tonight.

We still have hot weather and my garden is neglected. I haven't canned anything. o_O and almost everything we have picked has been goat food :barnie
