I remember back in the early '90's visiting some relatives who had a farm. They grew watermelons and pumpkins on a large scale. The temperatures over there were insane, 115F plus daily, not much rain. The watermelons did very well. Huge, sweet things.

Mine are growing so super slowly, I'm seriously starting to wonder if I'm going to get anything off them this year.

We have been giving them away. I had volunteers come up from tossing rinds over the fence to the hogs last fall, so we just let them grow. We have a yellow meat and a small round red one.

So far we have just planted black eyed peas and some of those butter beans i got from baymule for fall harvest. Idk if they will make but its worth a shot. Right now the wife is canning 7 quarts of those long green beans and with the rain we got today we will probably be harvesing them again before the week is out. Those things will put some food in the pantry!

I need more room in the garden to plant. Id love to do a lot of root crops for fall but i still have plants that are producing. Mainly okra, tomatoes, and peppers. I sure would love to have a garden full of beets, carrots, garlic, and turnips. I know for a fact the turnips will keep right in the ground until February. I assume the rest will too. Id like to get some of those really big orange carrots this year. A friend gave us a basket and we canned 30 jars of cubed carrots. And they are good!

Ya'll are moving right along! I'm still getting lots of peppers and I need to pick okra. Need to get that done... geeze I have a case of the "I don't wanna's".

Me too - sinuses are acting up, it's hot, feeling blah. Excuses, excuses, excuses... I'm full of them. I think I need a few days off.

Maybe I'll take a few days off and just take care of my baby turkeys. Wife texted me this morning.

So I guess that means they are officially my responsibility now.
I went to go check on them and seen a hawk sitting on top of the fence. It flew off when it seen me. I'm not concerned though I have netting over top of the nursery yard.

The news has been showing a brown cloud over Texas....was wondering about you.

@Chic Rustler I am glad that you like those green beans. They sure will make a LOT of beans! I never got mine planted this year. Have you tried them fried? Cut in 6" pieces, roll in buttermilk, then in seasoned cornmeal/flour mix. Fry, dip in Ranch dressing. :drool
