I've had the marvelous privilege of tanning a rare piebald Whitetail deer hide for someone this past week and just couldn't help but share. It's so beautiful, and deserves a share. I didn't take the deer, but boy I'm proud to have tanned the back piece (front was shoulder mounted). Antlers aren't from the deer- they just made for a pretty picture

That is beautiful. I hope the deer had a chance to breed and pass those genes on. It would be interesting if that area had a concentration of piebald deer. You did a good job on that. Thanks for sharing.

We have some in our area. I've seen a few that looked more like an appaloosa horse, so much white! They are pretty, IMO but, seems that they are not "wanted". Even the other deer sometimes reject the young if a lot of white.

It would make sense that they would be rejected from the herd. They stand out, thus might be considered an attraction for predators. Ever noticed how hens of a color tend to flock together?
