My son in law and I have been brewing last couple of months using my brewing gear. So knowing he needs to be able to brew his own at his house, I searched Craigslist and yep found two people selling their gear. So tomorrow we are headed to saint Louis to buy both. Between both purchases, we can get my son in law a complete fully equipped set ready to brew. The remainder I'll supplement what I already have.

First kit $50.00 that my son in law is buying.

Second kit $60.00 that I'm buying

Then I also found a ad for $2.00 a case recappable (pop top not screw offs) 12 ounce bottles. These normally run $14.00 a case plus tax & shipping. I need to contact the guy so I can go pick them up early next week. For $2.00 a case I'll take them all :)

Anyways... If you want to try home brewing, look on Craigslist for used gear, you might find a good deal. Everything will need to be cleaned and sanitized anyways before use, so a little dust or label peeling is no biggie.

Cheers

Out of the two purchases I was able to hook my son in law up. I took all the extra stuff and scored a wort chiller, 90 seat bottle tree and some swivel top bottles including a cool heavy duty 1/2 gallon swivel top bottle that I can take fishing or camping plus lots of duplicate stuff I already had. But the whole point was to get my son in law the gear he needs to brew at his house and he's now got everything he needs, including a kit to brew. So all in all both were great purchases.

Check out this cool 1/2 gallon swing top beer bottle, Its heavy duty, industrial strength. Just right for hooking on my back pack for hiking or camping. I've never seen one like this before.

My first husband brewed beer a few times...but I think he bought a canned mix that he put in water and boiled …. I don't really remember - it was decades ago. But, it was good! He used these kind of bottles:

I don't know if they're good or bad - but they seemed to work. We occasionally replaced the gaskets I think.

I've still got a bunch of them in the garage when I get ready to try my hand at brewing.

Yep they those swivel tops are nice. I got 6 just like that with one of the purchases today. They run $35.00 ~ $40.00 per dozen.

My ex bought a lot of Grolsch beer for the bottles, so he can use them for his home brew.
