Wow. that had to have your heart in your throat as you worked to free her! Glad that she wasn't hurt.

Went and gathered the last of the round bales yesterday. My friend had 3 set aside for me from their second cutting. Really looks like nice hay and what's even better - it's FREEEEE! That makes six free rounds she gave me this year. I love her! I took her a little gift and she really didn't want to take it but I convinced her. She told me that it makes her feel good to be able to give me something that I need - so I told her it makes ME feel good to be able to give her something. She couldn't argue with that, lol.

That makes a total of 12 rounds that I've gotten this year - half of them free. Can't beat that with a stick. Hard part still to come - getting them outta the trailer. But, I've done it before so I'll do it again. Need to decide if I'm gonna give the boys a whole new bale. They went through a bale faster than all the pasture goats go through one bale - and there's only 5 of them. Maybe soon to be 4 of them. I've got a young buck that I need to move out...I like him but he's got a small split scrotum and I really don't want that. However, I might breed him to one doe from a totally different line and see if it passes. I can always eat a failed experiment...if it's a buckling anyway. Might just band him after that and let him go till spring to hopefully wear off any 'bucky' smell that he's rapidly acquiring.

Woke up with some serious back pain yesterday morning. Not an unusual occurrence with me - but this pain was in a different place. It was up high - like the kidney area and the pain was wrapping around to my front. I took a Naproxen and waited patiently for the pain to go away, but it didn't. Decided to run over to the local urgent care and leave them a little sample to decide if it was a UTI. Wasn't - YAY! So, I got a steroid shot and came back to work. Still didn't feel wonderful most of the day - and left a little early. (conveniently went and picked up my hay on the way home) BUT - I feel awesome today. Shot took effect and I have no pain and boundless energy - shame I'm at work...don't really need boundless energy in the office.

Still hot, hot, hot. I'm waiting for it to cool down just a bit and I want to put out some rye grass. Need some cooler temps and some rain. :hide Feels so strange to actually want rain. Very rare to actually ask for it, lol.

TGIF ya'll!

Forgot to mention - went to WM this morning before work. Walked past the wine aisle and 'low and behold' they were having a clearance on some of my favorite wines. These are wines that I usually pay $10 a bottle for and they were $5. I bought a bunch. At 7 am. Got some funny looks - but I don't care. I'll save money any way I can!

Nice buy on the wine. It keeps a long time. :D Used to have a groc chair here that had a huge wine section. They gave discounts on 6 bottles or more, they gas a discount on their "senior" day, and they had clearance. If I hit it all -- jackpot!!:old Alas, they sold out the chain a couple years ago, after 50 yrs in business. :( Oh, they had excellent meats, too...& real butchers still cutting it!

Time for wine demos to pick up -- holidays coming -- a lot of beer & seltzers in summer. I need to refill my stash of wine!!!

I love that our local grocery store still has a butcher on staff.
This week they have Sirloin roasts on sale for $3.99/lb. Last time they had that sale, I bought 2 whole sirloins and had them ground into burger. Ground sirloin is about 90% lean and the 90% ground beef usually runs about $5.95 per pound.
I may stop in tomorrow and load up on sirloin roasts. I want to try canning beef in different spice mixes to see what works for us for quick suppers.

Lol - we bought an obscene amount of wine! We've got enough to last months. Probably...:hide

About to change up some goats again. I want to bring Chester and the Nubians up to the front pen so I can watch them. I really want more Kinders and that's the magic formula. After that, I'll be phasing out the Nubians. It's just to hard to keep them healthy here and the Kinders and kikos and even the pygmies don't have the parasite problems that the Nubians do.

Been working on cleaning out the raised beds so I can get some plantings done in there. I want lots of broccoli and cabbage planted. I like to make sauerkraut and kimchi and there is nothing like the taste of broccoli right offa the plant. No store bought can match that flavor.

So much I want to get done and so little time. I need to take another week or two offa work to get some things going around here.

Got up early this morning - I love it. Seems like wasting half a day to stay in bed too long. Tossed some scraps to the pigs and fed the milking does. Then decided I'd better get those round bales out of the trailer. It's a tight fit to get three rounds into a 16 ft livestock trailer - and it's even more adventurous to get them out. It can be simple if everything goes right - but when does that happen?

It wasn't too bad this morning. First one came out easy - but it usually does. Second one is hardest because it's crammed up against the back one and I've gotta get a strap between the bales to pull. Went ok, but it flipped over when it reached the end and I had to flip it again to get the forks under it. Third one wasn't too bad either. Just glad to have that done.

Gonna work a bit more on cleaning out tubs and raised beds to get some sort of fall garden in. I'm excited - I didn't have much of one last year. Should be easier now since most of the tubs are out of the animals area. Even found a few winter squash under all the vines/weeds. I thought I was fighting bind weed but it doesn't match the pics online. Maybe it's morning glory? I dunno… I tossed some to the goats and they weren't interested so they're no help at all, lol. Kinda makes me think that it's probably toxic to them. They're attractive - but very invasive.
