You can make it more or less spicy by adjusting the chilis and such. If you leave out the jalapenos and the pepper sauce, it's actually quite mild.

Hubby and I spent last evening canning apple pie filling. The recipe called for apple chunks cold packed, then covered with a syrup made of water, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, seasoning, and processing in HWB x 20 minutes for quart jars. So... so, so, VERY not impressed with this recipe. The syrup, I could eat a bowl full of it with a spoon! But, every single jar siphoned A LOT. They did seal, but... what a mess to clean up.

Remaining apples will be lightly seasoned and HOT packed with a bit of apple cider to initiate the boil. Then, when I want apple sauce, all I have to do is lightly mash or use a smart stick on them. Apple pie: add thickener and adjust seasoning when the jar contents go into the shell.
