I use raised beds and plant very close together (intensive) with mulch and heavily amended soil. Generally I don't even have to weed more than once or twice until the plants have grown up enough to shade the soil. Since they are so close together though, I gave up on most tools and just sit on the edge of the raised bed and do it by hand. It takes about 20 minutes to do a bed, and I can just do one a day if I choose. I started with raised beds years ago because my FIL built them for me in the old house and we built some again when we moved. I like them because I put hardware cloth down on the bottom of the bed and it keeps a lot of burrowing critters out. I guess we all just get used to what we have.

I find myself wondering if putting skirts around my RB would help discourage the rodents. I also intensively plant, and have wondered if buying a Cobra would help with the close weeding. They come in both a long handle and short handle version.

the idea is not that bad... I'm Actually thinking about the smell... I'm imagining how intense it will be... I guess it will be just fine... But I guess ill just use a different way to make the soil healthier.
