I won’t even get chickens for a good while. There are some scrappy crappy coops on the place I’m buying, but they will get torn down. I’ll have knee replacement surgery in August so I won’t exactly be on my best barn/coop building ability. I may go study nice coops on BYC because I want a coop to look nice, not just be functional. My nephew’s wife has chickens, lots of them and I can get eggs from her.

Last in WalMart and Dollar General's, no shortage, just higher prices. At any rate my girls are laying really well and some are old. I've added 5-8 each year from hatchings. So all good -- so far all healthy. Guess my ex will appreciate the 3 dz fresh ones my DD took today. They were meeting for lunch...🤷yesterday was her B'day...today her day off work. 15-20 a day is waaaay more than I can use! My neighbors love gifts.

Milk....thank you goatie girls 😁

We are blessed to have what we do! Hard work and all...it's worth it.

This morning as I went out to feed, I found 6 goat kids playing on the once well stacked mulch hay...outside of their pasture. Need to replace the small square fence on the gate. 😁. Had removed last yr and...woopsie, time to get that back up!! They were cute and having fun. :love

Just saw a announcement that McMurray hatchery want be shipping some of their chicks due to avian flu . They are having to destroy some of their breed lines and will need these chicks to repopulate their flocks.

I have an army of silkies to provide small eggs if needed but the large fowl are giving an average of 8 a day right now from the 10 possible layers. I don't count the 2 old ladies as they are allowed to freeload at 10 and 11. Usually silkie eggs pay off our 2 local ravens to keep hawks away.

Yes we are blessed. Hard work keeps us on our feet and healthy. Gardens, meat, eggs, milk, home grown is best.
HARD WORK, less processed food and no sweets has reduced my waist by 2 belt holes.

I needed cat food and was going to grab dog food extra at Costco. Guess back tomorrow and any time we are in the area to get a spare bag for storage.

Costco eggs. No idea on egg prices as I haven't bought any in a decade.

Mom said that's a pretty normal price for the 5 dozen. She buys them enough for Dad. The local Safeway had eggs at $.99 on sale so she bought her limit then sent Dad in to get his. They are limited on what they can eat and eggs are one of the safe things. Mom just can't eat them because of whatever egg wash they use she reacts violently to immediately after eating. She's got a friend who's new to chickens, who trades her eggs in trade for baked goods occasionally now. So she can have the occasionally egg even if I haven't been to visit in a while. She does freeze eggs now too.
