Does she suffer with ADHD? Traits sound similar.

Thankfully, there were no "Alexa" things when mine were young. šŸ¤£
Sounds familiar! But kiddos with very high intelligence often have ADHD-like symptoms before puberty, but later they have better executive functioning than age-peers. Nice little quirk to drive their parents absolutely insane.

Reasons why a muggle/normy parent is envious of the parent of a highly intelligent child... but when a parent of a highly intelligent child learns of another family with a highly intelligent child they're likely to offer consolation. :gig

I once told another parent my son's IQ was in the "extremely high" range and he said, "I'm so sorry to hear that." Now that's my tribe! He knows!

But to make it more complicated, people can have both high intelligence and ADHD. That's difficult to identify and difficult to get accommodated in a school setting. That's where I'm at with DS15. šŸ¤ His expulsion is on hold because, lawyers. (The district's lawyers. I didn't lawyer up. Money doesn't fix the problem so why bother?)

I had a dream that I had dyed my white hairs purple. Good idea, Subconscious! I dyed it tonight. Lots of skin staining from dying my baby hairs, so I'm not sure how it will look. DS15 talked me into buying purple nail polish and cresent moon earrings. He thinks I should do a pointy manicure. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø why not?

She hasnā€™t been tested, but is more than likely on the spectrum. DSIL was diagnosed as ADD at 40, after years of trying to figure out his own personality traits. DD can be scatter brained and has a mild case of ADDHD. She will take medication when she absolutely HAS to concentrate on something important. DD probably gets it from me, I was scatter brained, but ADDHD was an unknown factor when I was a child and I taught myself how to double down and gitā€™er done.

The oldest granddaughter, DG1, was IQ tested and is off the charts, but is common sense dumb as a box of rocks.

The middle child, DG2, is also brilliant smart, but appears to be normal. Sheā€™s not a screwball like her sisters.

i'm really glad to have learned about where many of my quirks have likely originated and then been carried forwards. Mom is certainly somewhere in the dyslexic realm (as am i - but i've trained myself hard to work around it - especially for typing - i still have issues some days and work around that by doing something else for a while). the PTSD symptoms are things i've worked around most of my life too but now at least i understand their source and that helps explain to others why i avoid a lot of things that they consider normal.

I was going to šŸ˜ your post, but this quote made me snort-laugh! DS15 is just like your DG1, but DS7 can pass for normal. :gig

One of my dumber ideas: I start recording walk for an AKC Fit Dog title for Splash. Walk 75 minutes per week for 8 weeks. IN WINTER. Real smart there.

I figure when the high temp is single digits or less, I'll drive to the pet-friendly farm store once or twice a week in the morning when it's quiet and walk laps - up and down every aisle for an hour.

But today is a random warm day - 40 degrees F! - so I'll walk him in town this afternoon.

Wow, Baymule! Wicked smart family all around!! Very cool.....
Thank you!

My maternal grandfather was a brilliant guy, but couldnā€™t sit still either. He was able to channel his energy into his job, he was assistant post master in his town. He had a magnetic personality, ladies loved him, and he loved the ladies. My grandmother took issue with that and divorced him. His son, my uncle, was put in military school to ā€œstraighten him outā€. Then he went in the military. Thatā€™s what they did with ā€œbad boysā€ in that day and age. He did well in life, but was a drunk alcoholic. His wife, not smart, fell in there with him and they both smoked and drank themselves to death. My Mother was brilliant, but was wise enough to stay away from habit forming things like cigarettes and alcohol. She was vice president of the mortgage company she worked for, almost unheard of that a woman would hold that position, before the days of womenā€™s lib.

Smart runs in the family. Those fortunate enough to also have common sense do better. Some, not all, of those with little or no common sense tend to get hammered by life, unless they marry well-someone with common sense. LOL

Itā€™s interesting to watch family traits and characteristics.

Ever notice in areas where families have lived for generations, how certain family names get known for certain characteristics? A bad family name gets hung on people when they are born. Then here comes an outstanding individual that has to move away to avoid the stigma of their family name. Then that works in reverse too.

Just ramblingā€¦.

I'm sick today. My family got a mild flu-like cold. We're almost overit, but I have the sinus congestion and muscle soreness today. (This is just me whining while I wait for sudafed and ibuprofen to kick in.)

DH roasted a chicken, made potatoes au gratin from scratch, and is making homemade bratwurst now.

Kids have swim lessons today. I'm dreading that, but keep telling myself that the meds will work and I'll feel better by then. I might walk Splash while I wait for their lessons.
