Sustainable Newbie
My name is Sarah. I live in western Alabama. We live in an unincorporated city so we don't have much when it comes to restrictions. We have about 2 acres, mostly grass but surrounded by woods. We've only been here about 6½ months. We have 7 chickens, 6½ weeks old. Eventually we want 2 mini highlands and a donkey. We are getting a generator by the end of the year. I love gardening and want to grow veggies and fruits and herbs so I know exactly what we're eating. I love making our own bug repellents, detergents, and candles. Eventually I would love to start making preserves. I would love to learn more about self-sufficient on multiple levels. We have a huge underground storm shelter that I would like to keep canned items in for emergencies and other items. We don't get much of a winter down here. My zone is 8. We're just getting started so any advice is welcome. Love the outdoors and working hard. Love to cook things from scratch!
