    Honeysuckle mead

I'd love to try, but I think I'll have to wait until we get our garage built, so we have a secure and hopefully temperature controlled (mostly) place to let it do its thing. Or the root cellar built, that would definitely be temperature controlled. I'm hoping to have lots of different fruits and...

    Honeysuckle mead

Can you split off some of it and add different fruits to change the flavors? Or does it not work that way? My brain is kind of picturing it like a sourdough starter..

    Air layering

Hubby voted to give it more time, so I put the pod back on.

    Air layering

So, the regular trunk is approximately 2' taller than the air layered one. I opened the pod and it's got two bitty roots on one side. It doesn't appear to have any of the outer layer of bark connected from the upper to lower portion, and it has been growing new leaves, so I'm assuming it's...

    Air layering

Picture update from this morning, avocado is still doing good. I haven't opened the pod again yet. I will probably give it another week or two. I'm still watering the top of the pod each time I water the plant.

    Lazy Gardener's Little Town Farm

Can you set up a mister for the ducks? It really does make a huge difference in cooling the area for the animals. Plus it's more water so the ducks should be thrilled.

Label attached, active ingredients are corn gluten meal and sodium chloride. Google doesn't think it will work on squirrels, only rats and mice.

    Lazy Gardener's Little Town Farm

Have you looked into RatX? It's supposed to only effect rodents, basically after they eat it it tells them they aren't thirsty, so they dehydrate themselves to death because they forget to drink. Doesn't harm any critter that eats the dead/dying rodents. Doesn't work as well during the rainy...

    Air layering

I tried to take some pictures last night of the good avocado air layer, I think it was a little too late in the evening so the pictures are crud. But, I think there were some little tiny nubbins of roots thinking about growing. I make sure to water the pod each time I water the plant and I think...

    Air layering

One possible reason the three pods failed and the others didn't (besides lack of rooting hormone) is that those pods were either in direct sunlight or only partial shade. The other pods are almost all fully shaded. I bet they got cooked/dried out.

    Air layering

I still haven't popped the pods open to check officially, but the ones on the lilac look ok, no wilting. The jasmine pods also look ok, but I think the whole plant is stressed from the heat. The guava appears to have wilted and possibly died, the parent plant is happy and has new leaves, so I...

That sounds like he caused an accident, they were totally supposed to come home with you! I have been avoiding tsc here because I didn't want to be tempted into bringing home chicks.

I would ask the officials what the current law is regarding nuisance animals and trapping/releasing/terminating. As others stated above, it is illegal in many places to trap and release, because the animal may come back, it may prey on other domesticated animals in the "new" area, or it may be...

Hopefully these two were the extra drakes, I hate losing hens and you needed to get rid of the extra drakes anyways.

Did it eat the whole thing or just the tender parts? If it didn't eat the whole thing, and you didn't dispose of the remains yet, you have primo bait to try and get it when it comes back. Can you set up a large live trap? Make sure the bait is well attached to the trap so the critter has to go...

Wife needs to stop sending me to town

You could add a few nest boxes and both the ducks and chickens would probably use them. Just make them on the floor and add a dummy egg. We had ducks a long time ago and the little idiots would lay right next to their pond or as they were swimming. We kept finding eggs in the pond (knee deep).

    Air layering

I will have to go look. I think there might be additional growth on the avocados, but also a few half brown leaves. I like that the avocado new leaves come in reddish, it's easier to see new vs old.

    Air layering

Well, 8 air layering pods applied. I will check them in 2-4 weeks. I couldn't find the rooting powder so it's just the damp moss stuff. I soaked it in a bucket and squeezed the water out then packed into the pods. 2 on the lilac: 2 on the jasmine: 1 on a guava: And 3 on avocados: The first...

Wife needs to stop sending me to town

If they don't have a routine, try to start one. Find a treat they like, and toss it on the bank and yell "here ducks" or whatever you want as the magic words. Just be consistent. Don't try to get them to come close right away, just get them used to coming to treats when called, and then...

    Air layering

I bought some of those air layering pods, they arrived yesterday. Going to try those, plus some assorted containers to air layer the lilac, a jasmine, and some of the branches off my avocado. Does it matter if you use liquid or powder rooting hormone? Should I try both ways to test which one...
