    rodeogirl's journey to being self-sufficient

we have a red rock and a green rock for the window sill by the kitchen sink and a few other small things we put up, but that's about it. we're not really into the whole thing other than seeing the family.

    Farm-Raised Fish Operation

what is the climate like? heating/cooling and water supply? feed stock for the fish? location or siting would be important if you are going to try to use stream/river water and also there are going to be regulations about what can be released. also, with other recent problems with imported...

    Dean foods files for bankruptcy

i grew up kitty corner from a small dairy and spent some time there, my older brothers helped him out at times. i wasn't old enough but i liked visiting. it is still there as a farm of some kind, but not a dairy.

    SS cafe

i go off and hibernate once in a while from on-line things for a day or two. i need a book to read that takes me someplace else, gives the imagination a good workout. since i had no new books to read i picked up one i'd read a long time ago and i didn't much like it back then, but this time it...

    Simply Sheep

oh, ok. :) thanks for the clarification, i thought it was just too heavy to move at all... i do know that it is often easier to swivel things as they are moving instead of when they are at dead stop.

just noticed my straight bladed shovel is starting to crack (on the blade).

@SprigOfTheLivingDead it may be warm enough for them, but i hope you check them often because they may dry out quickly, especially if they are smaller plants in smaller pots...

    Simply Sheep

i understand your points, but i was just thinking this was a part time thing that you could move once the sheep had gnawed on it for a bit and it got lighter. but if it has layers why not cut through the outer layer and unpeel that and put it where you want?

    Simply Sheep

i'd just let them eat it where it sits and if i needed to scoop and carry some leavings from the sheep once in a while that would be much lighter and then i could put those where i wanted them.

those who do something and not just talk about it

sometimes instead of looking at negative stuff all the time or talking about things that make little to no difference i'm so glad i can find people who are actually trying to do something about the poor state of the world: The Ocean Cleanup https://www.youtube.com/user/TheOceanCleanup they...

    Best shop ideas

new LED 4ft lights. not that expensive. will pay for themselves eventually and the light is bright and great for being able to see what you're doing. perhaps too good in some cases... i dislike the hum of flourescent lights. LEDs are quiet. warm enough. i do not want to be cold while...

Wahls Protocol Diet (on a budget)

it was a long time ago and i'm willing to try things out. liver was on sale... lesson learned. :) dehydrating scapes too much work for such tiny bits of garlic to peel. i tried a few different things to see if i could cook and extact the garlic from the husks/peels, but it didn't work well...

Wahls Protocol Diet (on a budget)

eating lower on the food chain will avoid some of the mercury contamination. that is why small sardines are pretty good food source - unlike tuna or larger fish... you can source cleaner fish. unfortunately down here where i am the waters are not really that great as compared to where i was...

    SS cafe

i don't even notice it. if i'd not have read the ingredients list of chili paste i'd never have known or thought about it. it's hot/spicy enough that for a large mug of hot chocolate a quarter of a teaspooon is plenty to give it a little heat. it is one way i get my chili/garlic fix in. :)

Wahls Protocol Diet (on a budget)

i really like a lot of the mustard based BBQ sauces. :) i'm still thinking about your fish/bone adversion, i've never had that as we always ate canned fish with the bones and all. also grandma made dried fish in the oven (butter, salted and slow roasted at low temperature to dry them all the...

i'm jelly! (jealous! :) ) that is ok though, i know what it is like down there in the middle of summer. so we know what is coming. *sips hot chocolate that has green chili in it* i had to explain to my sister this morning that this green chili paste has shrimp paste in it too. you don't...
