It dropped further yesterday morning to 16F degrees. No fun. I have a Propane heater for keeping the electricity bill down. It sure keeps it warm and toasty in here. Carson goes outside with me, but is happy to park himself in front of the heater and let me carry buckets of boiling water out the...
18F here this morning. East Texas is not built for cold, we are built for heat. Then here comes a snow, ice, cold storm and we are miserable.
I don’t know how yall do it all winter long. A week is too much for me.
I’m lounging in sweat pants and a long sleeved T shirt that was BJs. I’ll put on a flannel shirt, sweat hoodie over that, thick wool socks, Carhart insulated overalls, a Carhart coat and knit hat. Leather gloves, rubber boots complete my stylish ensemble of Farmer Wear. Then I shall waddle...
On my third cup of coffee. Got water boiling on the stove. I’ll suit up in a few minutes to go out and face the elements. I’ll bust ice in sheep’s water buckets, then come in for boiling water to give them a drink. There is snow on the ground but not much. It doesn’t cover the grass. Houston is...
I have some crab grass too, also some Dallis grass and several others that together make up a good mixed field. Not much grass now, due to winter kill. I have a type of brome, it only gets 12 to 14 inches tall. It comes in the winter and dies back in the spring.
You can use a plant I. D. App...
How are you this morning? I have snow, but not much. But everything is frozen. I’m boiling water on the stove to carry to the sheep. Morning chores are going to take awhile.
Much hated Bermuda! Hahaha! I’m in East Texas, Bermuda is used for grazing animals and makes fine hay. I have Bermuda growing on my 25 acres and Bahia grass, plus many forbs. Bermuda does well in the heat in the southern United States.
Why is Bermuda so hated?
I’ve had my 2 cups of coffee, going to get feed this morning, don’t have enough to make the week. With snow and ice predicted, I’m gonna hunker down and not going anywhere!
Snow and ice here too. Going to get feed this morning. I’ve been feeding extra, with moms nursing lambs and the colder weather. I’ve got preps to do too, but not a lot. I’ll leave a consultation with pregnant ewes to either lamb NOW or cross their legs and suck it up for a week!
Welcome from East Texas. It will be interesting to follow your journey. I’m on 25 acres, East Texas is pine forests and ranch land, lush green grass and cattle. I raise Katahdin hair sheep.
More freezing temperatures starting Sunday night. I’ll be going for more alfalfa on Monday. I currently have 22 lambs, I’m giving moms a boost with the alfalfa, plus some 14 pregnant ewes.
I take granddaughters to meet parents on Sunday afternoon then back to face bad weather. Possibly snow on...
Good morning all! It’s been beautiful weather this week! Wonderful because I have my little granddaughters from last Friday to this coming Sunday, also their 2 dogs. Parents went to Spain and Portugal. We are having a great time. 2 ewes obligingly lambed. Ewenique, 11 years old, had twin boys...
Coffee has been ready for awhile, but there’s some left. The below freezing has gone away, we are back to regular Texas winter weather and that’s just fine with me. I’ll send you some @Mini Horses .
