    pictures of finished sewing/quilt projects

So sweet, Lori. Here is my wall hanging that I gave to my sister. This is just the top. I did get it quilted and bound, but forgot to take a picture before she took it home. It is the first quilt project I've actually finished. :D The lap quilt I did for my niece is now done and went home with...

Suggestions on what can be made with recycled screens?

Great ideas! Cover kiddie pools for chick brooders is all I've done with mine so far. But I love the tip of screening vegetables. Would it really keep out the dread squash bug? :fl

Watermellon Recipes?? Just brought home 225 overripe mellons- HELP!!!!

WOW that is literally a ton of watermelon. Lucky chickens. :D My aunt makes yummy watermelon rind pickles. I think you can freeze some chunks and use later in a slush/sorbet sort of thing.

    Butter me up!

Oh, fun! I would probably use the vinegar scrub on the wood, but I understand worrying about a funky taste. I just got raw goat's milk through a herd share. How do you separate out the cream? What are you doing with the remaining skimmed milk?

    BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

Yes, I was rather stressed about this family gathering. Thought my estranged nephew would come and bring his new and pregnant wife, but he didn't. :/ I paid $55 for one share of the herd. Then I will pay $17 a month, which is basically for the farmer's care-giving and such. From this I'm...

:weee :weee :weee :weee :weee :weee I now have access to raw milk. I bought a herd share on a goat farm. :D The farm is about 20 minutes from me and on the way to the feed store and farmer's market I like to go to. The farmer lady has a lot in common with things I've been learning and trying to...

I recently just finished a wall hanging and a lap quilt. They are the first projects I've completed beginning to end. My first quilt was/is a Bear Paw pattern that I completely hand stitched starting around 1998. The piecing went pretty fast considering the top is 80" x 80". :) I got stalled on...

Hey Creative People, how about a few ideas?

The spaghetti is a nice idea, Beanie, so I guess the rigatoni isn't so far removed from that. Italian food does seem to equal romance somehow. I like the chocolate covered strawberries or maybe an ice cream sundae.

    BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

Had a great weekend with family in from Virginia, Iowa, and Maryland. Four out of my seven siblings were here. I had 3 couples staying at my house. Saturday started with my nephew flying his remoted controlled planes up and down our valley and over the farm. He took it three miles out and...

    Quail_Antwerp: Words from the Barnyard...

Baby is still breech. Mom suggested you belly crawl, letting the belly muscles relax and encouraging baby to move. I have no idea if that would work. :idunno But it would be funny to see you crawl at this stage of pregnancy. :lau

Rest in peace Lady Hannah Van Buren. The hen had been acting a bit mopey the last couple days. Wednesday she even let me pick her up, which was unusually as she was generally rather flighty and independent. She felt quite lightweight and her crop was empty despite it being evening and having...

    BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

So I started my poultry venture in October/November of 2008. I just wanted some fresh eggs from my own yard as real food issues had started to become important to me. In the meantime I've gone down the different roads of chicken, turkey, ducks, geese, rabbits, guinea, quail, and even some...

    Cost of herd share??

I talked to the local goat farmer. She is a few miles farther from me than I thought, but it might be worth it. I'll meet her and the goats next week. Just in conversing I'd say she and I are on the same wavelength. She may have even helped me find a new source of chicken feed without GMOs...
