Freemotion's food journal: Expanding the gardens, pics p 53

Hey, Free, I'm loving my Kombucha plain or with a bit of fruit juice, but I'd like to try it with your homemade ginger chai tea concentrate. I couldn't find a recipe, though. Do you know where the it might be? Thanks! :frow Oh, and I'm jealous of your garden. I had big plans, but I didn't get...

Is my Kombucha suposed to taste like this?

I read to keep extra scobys in a jar of kombucha liquid on a pantry shelf. :hu Everyone has their own method, I guess. I'd still like to start a constant brew. Right now I'm doing one gallon at a time and can't wait the 7 day minimum. I haven't had any kombucha for 3 days now that I shared...

Is my Kombucha suposed to taste like this?

Now why didn't I think of that?! I keep looking online for the bottles and can't bring myself to pay the cost plus shipping. I'm sure I can find someone who might even want free beer as long as I get the bottles. :lau Now what local store sells Grolsch????

    Blueberry season has begun

Wild blueberries!!! I'm jealous. I'm trying to get out and pick lots of wild blackberries this week, but it is hard to find time. I have to "suit up" to protect my skin, but that means I get HOT quick.

What can I feed the chicks AND how do you kill a chicken?

If mother hen had full range access to foraging, she could probably feed her chicks, but it isn't likely that in a confined and mowed backyard that she can fully feed them. You can mill/grind some of your grains for the chicks. Layer crumbles aren't best for them yet. You can supplement them...

I think this is totally cool!

I'd get claustrophobic in there. And forget about cooking from scratch! :tongue Sort of seems like wasted space above the stairwell. :/

    BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

Put on my suit of armor last evening (heavy denim jacket over tank top and jeans, plastic kitchen gloves with fingers cut out) and went blackberry picking. I got a half gallon and didn't even check 1/3 of the bushes. Even found a couple of ripe bunches of elderberry. :celebrate Mom says she...

    BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

It is a thought, but going and setting up requires hotel stay and other expenses, plus I'm then competing with Foleys and Holdums on calls. :D If I find a serious buyer, I could meet them there to deliver. In fact, I picked the one trio up from Foleys at OH Nationals last year.

    Java. the end.

Interesting feathering. :/ I'm still trying to figure out what mix they are. :hu If they have Maran in them, they should be good eating. Hens may even be olive eggers.

    BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

The feathered chicks I have range from 1-2 months for the most part. I can guess sex on many. The RIR are nearly 3 months and the BO and Dorkings are from last year's hatch.

    BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

Hey Ohio SS friends! Know anyone needing some poultry? Major reductions coming on my place. I'm taking the plunge and finally letting go of the beautiful show quality white call ducks. I have two trios plus three ducklings. I'm looking for a serious buyer as I don't want to take a huge loss...

    small jelly jar gift idea

I saved it too, but I'll probably forget about it come November. I should make some now with blackberry filling and freeze.

Having no luck with my duck project.....

I'm sorry. I lost a Muscovy hen this past week. She had prolapsed and I don't know how long she when before I found it. I bathed her and isolated her, but she just quit eating and drinking and died. I have a nasty in-ground pond too, but at least it is filtered every time it rains from the...

    storing krauts

I had an older aunt (born in the early 1920s) who did a cold canning thing. I never witnessed the process, but it went something like this. Boil jars to sterilize. Fill hot jars with ingredients (first boil fruits or anything that may contain bacteria - sauerkraut or pickles would not and could...
